Just read the full article of The New York Times . Oof that is tough. This could lead to a lot of problems. I think after the vice article the hell broke loose behind the scenes. This research could lead to an end of this forum as we know it.
First of all I do not like the depiction of this website as pro-death. I believe in pro-choice. It is a very ethical topic with many nuances which this article does not portray at all. (As so many articles about this forum.)
I defended this forum morally after the vice article. It helps me to cope with my suicidality a lot. I would feel way more loenly without it. And no my self-aid group is no replacement at all. I could write a long thread why this forum is so helpful for me (someone who was abused/mistreated as a child of my own parents). But I already did that after the vice article. Maybe I Will do that again. There are probably a lot of guests now in this forum. I know this from the time in a mental health forum: When I talked about my wish to die they all gawk at the thread and left dumb comments.
The way more urgent part is what will happen now to this forum? The two founders are probably leaked. If they were Satan and Stalin I would probably still be in this forum. At least they defend the right to ctb. I JUST NEED THIS FORUM IT REALLY HELPS TO COPE WITH MY SEVERE SUICIDALITY (SINCE A DECADE) NORMIES.
I think legally they are not in so much trouble: As long as Section 230 stays as it is this is probably not forbidden in the USA. However with this article the pressure on politicians increases to change section 230 in order to prohibit this website. I am pretty sure if that happened this forum/or a similar one would emerge in the dark net with way more suspicious people. The members of this forum could also be in legal trouble. Normally I would now stop visiting this site but it just helps my mental health. Not to be lonely with my experience of severe long-term suicidality. The investigations about this forum in several countries sound scary though.
I am not an IT experts I don't know much about providers, clouds and servers. Now after this report the people who sell that service could become more reluctant to sell it. It would not surprise me if this forum would soon close forever.
Oh and I should not forget the supply of SN could stop due to this. They want us instead to jump in front of trains or other undignified deaths. As long as assisted suicide is not available in all countries the prohibiton of peaceful methods is just cruel.
