  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

This is my theory, SS works thanks to the Xenforo software, it is a great software but at the same time it becomes uncomfortable when your site reaches thousands and thousands of users, my theory is that the SS staff does not accept many members for fear that site servers get full, and in the event that staff use Xenforo Nulled spam can be a big problem, have someone from staff correct me if I'm wrong
It took me around a week or so to get accepted so some of them might just be waiting. There's also many members on the forum twenty thousand or so if I recall correctly so I don't really think it's Xenforo keeping them at bay.

Anyway, I'll create Sanctioned Suicide Spanish in a few days and then I'll see how it goes

Traffic does seem to be slightly less than during the early to mid stages of the pandemic. Will it keep declining to even less than pre COVID levels? Who knows. I hope the forum can keep going. I have been on several different forums since the early 2000s and a good number of them either closed down or migrated to sites like Facebook or Reddit. Perhaps sites like Discord will take over the role of forums, or some very clever people will start creating "indie" social networks and hosting sites themselves. There has been some movement in this direction, if you want to see some alternatives to Twitter, Facebook etc you can go to alternativeto.net. Also look into decentralised social networks. There are also a few that are set up with Bitcoin (not sure how that works though) idk. I do get concerned about free speech and such, is Facebook or whatever going to start censoring such ideas as expressed on this site? I was on a site called Gab for a while that had groups for specific interests, but I left as although most folks on there were fairly polite it is a right wing site and sometimes those type of views can be very triggering for me.

I echo a lot of the reasons already put forward by others. I also do think that the issue with the domain change a few months ago may have had an impact.

Interesting theory. This site has less than a thousand users a day. It does have a lot of members though. I don't see the servers being overwhelmed when so few users are on the site.

It appears that more members leave than are joining lately. Fresh content, and being easily found on google would inject some life possible.

And neither does the site have any meta keyword tag that helps search engines to index it or users to find it, I guess this was done on purpose

Any thoughts on why they don't want google to index them well? They haven't blocked it altogether I see.

I'm guessing for one thing the cost of the server would go up if more visitors came so that's a purely practical matter. It's not a profit making site so keeping costs down would be a priority.

As I said, knowing the meta keyword and knowing how it works also affects the number of new user visits to the site and the way the site is indexed in search engines.

I know, I've had websites. I just was wondering why they would not have that meta tags.

A: Or the administrators did not know how to add manual tags on the site, (because Xenforo does not do it automatically)
B: The administrators did it on purpose so as not to attract too much attention

I'm guessing B. Meta keyword tags are so basic anyone would know about them.

We experience less and less traffic. Many people are annoyed about repetitive elements or other reasons. Years ago I was in another suicide forum it is now dead. Not sure if this is a seasonal effect or a longterm development. Can we do something against that or is it unavoidable. I don't want to lose this forum...
These last months I didn't access the forum. I was focused on studying. I'm not annoyed by anything of this great and unique forum.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts :-)

Less posts doesn't mean the place is dying IMO. Signal to noise ratio is a better sign of health... I'd rather have a site with less repetitive posts, be they new threads on topics that have already been covered, or posts on every thread with excess positivity or negativity without really saying anything new.

Too much noise can actually make it harder to see new threads. The suicide section IMO gets too many posts that belong in recovery or off-topic, and that leads me to post less. If I find a thread I want to reply to when I check the site in the morning, will it still be in the front page of the suicide section by the time I have time to write a response in the afternoon? Not to mention the threads I don't see when I'm only looking in the recovery and off-topic sections.

EDIT: I think this thread is a perfect example of something that belongs in the off-topic section. As does the "Reasons for less traffic in this forum" thread that was created around the same time by the same OP. But of course, I am only speaking for myself.

There are some repetitive things i also notice. I dont know is it because people dont use search function or what.
Also some people experience similar things and thoughts thus posting similar things.

Most importantly the topic here is only about suicide. Its really limited what you can talk about on that matter thus same thing being talked about repeatedly.

Theres not even a discussion about methods anymore. Mostly only about SN.
Yeah I am mostly here for learning about CTB methods so I spend my time for the most part reading the firearms and hanging megathreads which are found in the stickies. But it's annoying seeing so many new faces constantly appear and ask questions which are already answered in the OP or in a reply just a couple posts behind their own reply. In other forums I wouldn't really have patience for that, but because of the nature of SS I think we should all be more understanding that there are mentally unbalanced people coming here in distress and don't have time to research/read before they reply in a topic where the question has been answered already 100 times. So, I usually help them anyway if no one has helped them before me. But some people are still a little bit too much lol.
People will come and go in waves. There will always be suicidal people.
Just hope the leadership of SS have it sorted when it comes to getting the word out about this forum, because yes, suicidal people is something the world won't run out of, but finding this forum is a different case.
Btw, we should also be aware that there are most likely a good amount of infiltrators in this forum, who have an agenda to bring the forum down in one way or another.

People are starting discords and inviting members to join them also.
I don't think that should have that big impact because they are just small private discord groups for a small groups of friends.

Yeah, it definitely feels like there's less activity.
Almost no comments and interactions, some prominent members are taking a break or gone, and not many people join.

Only time will tell if this is the beginning of the decline.
There is a need for info about ctb and somehow contact with others with the same problems. But ideally, this place would be empty. I wish we all could be recovered.

I certainly hope this forum isn't dying. I only just got here and it's the only place I can really talk.

There are lots of them. Some have lots of members. There is also telegram which has lots of members who switched over to using it almost exclusively.

Isn't it good if this place remains small though. Means less predators and trolls. When it was at its most popular there were tons of stupid threads like 'rate my method to cut my legs and arms off with a chainsaw,' and other dumb shit.
