I have often wondered why it isn't used more often. Will you please explain or point me in the direction to understand what you mean by the vegetable risk?Quick and peaceful, but takes a decent bit of setup and is very easy to mess up. Also tough for many people to acquire/hide canisters, which is why it's not more frequently used. And the nonzero chance of ending up as a vegetable if oxygen gets re-introduced at the wrong time.
Other than that, most peaceful method that is generally available.
Method works by replacing oxygen with inert gas such as nitrogen or argon.I have often wondered why it isn't used more often. Will you please explain or point me in the direction to understand what you mean by the vegetable risk?
Thank you for explaining. Truly. Isn't this easily remedied by using a scuba sort of mask instead? These masks are created for rather extreme underwater conditions, right?Method works by replacing oxygen with inert gas such as nitrogen or argon.
No carbon dioxide is produced when you breath these in, so no feeling of suffocation.
You pass out from lack of oxygen and then your brain and body start to shut down from the same.
The lack of oxygen causes involuntary muscle movements while unconscious, which are usually mild, but can sometimes cause the bag to slip off one's head. Why some people strap themselves down.
It take a bit for lack of oxygen to kill you. If the bag comes off at some point, you'll start breathing again, but may have significant brain damage, leaving you a vegetable.
For masks in general, the issues I've seen are finding a mask, potential cost, most masks require some kind of modification to work with inert gases, and that you cannot pre fill a mask like an exit bag.Thank you for explaining. You can purge the mask from the regulator to get rid of the oxygenFor masks in general, the issues I've seen are finding a mask, potential cost, most masks require some kind of modification to work with inert gases, and that you cannot pre fill a mask like an exit bag.
Would suggest reading the above megathreads and the PPH sections on inert gases. They're more detailed than my mental recollections.
Not the issue mentionedYou can purge the mask from the regulator to get rid of the oxygen
I asked this question earlier today and then saw your post. so is this what gas monkey means when he mentions to pre fill the mask? I think you saw what I posted as well before about using a Scott regulator and the only option on that is the purge knob so I guess that's the same but in addition, what is even the purpose of pre filling the mask if there is already oxygen built up from before putting it on?You can purge the mask from the regulator to get rid of the oxygen
Use an exit bag, the mask does not work. I've switched to an exit bag. If you insist on using a full face mask, yes when you put it on, purge which means flushing the mask with nitrogen and getting rid of oxygen levels. The mask is extremely claustrophobic and not comfortable. Using an exit bag clear turkey is very VERY comfortable when combined with my setup while asleep.I asked this question earlier today and then saw your post. so is this what gas monkey means when he mentions to pre fill the mask? thank you so much and for explaining it.yes I do plan on using the full face mask and do understand it causes claustrophobia for some but I'm much too paranoid about not getting a good enough seal with the bag. It sounds like you created a good method though for others to use, dying in your sleep vs awake is always ideal.
