  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

Tech is a weapon in a war. It could automate most things so we could have maybe 5 hour workweeks, and do whatever else we find important or amusing. It could amplify our powers

And it could smash us. Depends on the battlefield and who wields it

It's all ridiculous. We now have enough food, shelter and luxuries. But artificial scarcity keeps us on the treadmill. Homeless beggars serve as warnings of what happens when we fall off

Personally I don't think AI will ever reach a "human level", at least not with literal computers. It'll get smart af but it won't ever truly outsmart us as a species, and I think we'll always have it under our control. Robots will replace LOTS of jobs but that'll benefit humanity more than it'll hurt it because people will be able to focus on more artistic works and desk-job stuff while all the hard laborious work is done by AI robots for the most part

To be honest I am more worried about how AIs would feel, if we ever make the mistake of creating fully sentient AIs. Imagine coming into existence, then realising that you have no control over your physical form and you have to do all that your creator tells you to do. Your memory will wiped if you do not act like they want you to, and you cannot even end yourself properly because that you have no control over anything. It kind of sounds like slavery, but somehow worse…
Sounds like real life, minus the memory wipe part.

Well… not really, at least we have the ability to end ourselves thanks to our hands. Being an AI would likely feel similar to being a brain in a jar, since they lack agency in the physical realm.

I'm not gonna lie, I kind of like AI, but it sure can be scary. I think it depends on how we decide to use them but there will definitely be a lot of negative things that come out of it.

This answer definitely "Yes"

An example: You apply for a job and upload their CV on the applicant page. You are happy that they didn't have to enter all the personal data.

Wrong thought, 'cause you're over 25.

The program analyzes your CV for relevant keywords and dates. If you don't find them, you will be mercilessly sorted out as an applicant.

However, it is quite possible that they are excellently qualified for the position, but for example:
- only the job title has changed in recent years.
- Due to their age, they have changed jobs more often than young people.
- You live in a poor neighborhood and the program recognizes and evaluates that (no shit).
- You are simply too old.

The social selection required by the legislator may then only take place among the groups issued by the AI to which you no longer belong. Because of this reality, they will never get a well-paying job again. The economic ruin is the result and also the desire to invest the last free money in SN.
As Otto Waalkes said "You don't have a chance, use it well"

I'm already worthless and replaceable so that aspect doesn't really concern me. I view life as a ridiculous and pointless charade, so the potential end result of AI doesn't seem very different. Also I'd like to see specifically how things play out first before getting too worked up. Great topic and replies so far though.

I'm kinda thinking about staying a little bit longer to see how low the world will sink - But the date I've decided to "choose" will likely be long enough to see as much as I'd want to anyways.

AI makes it more complex. On one hand, I'd like to see where things are going. On the other, we'll unexpectedly get superintelligent AI that will make suicide virtually impossible as part of it's "ethics".

already gave up on artistic endeavours because of it, so i'd say it depends. certainly doesn't make it better for anyone in a creative field. most of the garbage entertainment industries churn out already feel generated.
