  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

I know people who aren't depressed can't understand depression. So I understand people can't understand SS but I am not enjoying life I haven't for a long time and being totally honest I never will again and no treatment or anything will work for me. I don't want this pain and I don't want to CTB in pain. I turn to SS to find comfort and the most peaceful way to CTB. So please understand this is a good thing not a bad thing.

Yes, people can't understand suicide and I don't understand mathematics, that's why I follow a path away from it, people should try too to leave it alone what they can't comprehend.

It's time for the nuclear button.

That Representative and her Office shall receive my official death warrant letter in their name. On the date the Bill should pass and is enacted, their Office shall be the first to learn of my death by their suicide of me, comprising a pre-dated letter I will send the day I CBT with the coordinates of my body along with my relatives' contact information. My relatives will also receive a similar letter, implicating the Bill's enactment as the cause for my death.

Give me Liberty, or give me death.

if this place ever does become criminalized i hope they realize that many, including myself, will just ctb as a result. "oh, you're in such distress you're actively spending your time on a suicide forum? well good we'll arrest you for it" what could go wrong with their logic

I wonder if people could compile like an instruction booklet of what to save and do in case of the event that SS gets shut down. Like, all the information, etc, so we have it safe to CTB even if the site is offline, if that makes sense.

Since the problem is a change to US legislation, the administrators could host SS on servers in a different country where there are no laws against talking about suicide online. Perhaps outside the European Union and the UK.
I'd suggest Iceland or Norway.

Guess it's time to save any resources I can find on this site. It's so weird to me that there's such pushback against a site like this. A lot of people are here for peer support from people who actually understand. Some will go find the necessary information and ctb, but let's be honest… we're suffering constantly. How does it make sense to torture people by forcing them to either stay alive in pain or be unable to ctb without excruciating pain because no information on peaceful ways to do it exist online anymore? No matter what these pro-life people do, there's always going to be people trying to ctb. Removing information and support will just make it more likely people will fail and end up broken/vegetative.

Living in the US, I really am appalled and saddened by how much things have changed in the past year for this forum. I guess I should really start researching how to use VPN or the Tor browser... the fucking panic attack I'd have seeing that little window pop up saying the site is blocked in this country. Why can't these people understand that so many people have no where else to feel supported or understood... without this community I have straight up no one.

Our country is not running short of idiots in politics. Any "conservative" cause gets them all excited and writing legislation.
I understand the families of people who exited life early will not be happy, but pointing their grief this direction has absolutely no effect on the outcome.
It is like those crosses along the road where someone died in an accident. Their inability to accept death becomes our problem.

It will be hard to lobby for suicide in a public forum. Let us hope they can lobby for choice.

I guess this makes two causes for choice that should be supported.

Here is a quote from an article on this bill. Politicians wrote this bill because of the New York Times article and here in this quote they are citing the Times article. That's why the NY Times wrote that article full of lies on this website to take it down. This bill is to take SS down. The politicians like everyone believes everything in the media and in the NY times article so they think we are encouraging suicides of children and others which we are not. The reporters made a long study of this site analyzing millions of posts so they know what they wrote is a lie.. they said we encourage suicide , made us look like a death cult etc. everything the fix26 said the same things . So if anyone writes to the congress maybe they can say that all the NY times article is lies. The NY times Reporters are saying this website caused deaths:

"Bill Outlawing Online Suicide Assistance Would Open Sites to Liability
November 2, 2022
Lawmakers are seeking to make online assistance of suicide a federal crime, pushing to hold accountable both individual users and the tech companies and websites that allow such content on their platforms.
A bipartisan bill introduced in the House of Representatives on Monday, the Stop Online Suicide Assistance Forums Act, comes amid rising concern over suicide rates among young people, and mounting evidence of online dangers.
The bill's primary sponsor cited a Times investigation published last December into a website where members share detailed instructions on how to die and encourage one another to follow through with suicide plans. The investigation identified 45 deaths connected to the site and found hundreds of posts suggesting that the true toll was much higher. " ......

It seems like many of these people who are so vehemently against the existence of SS conflate users wishing others peace with encouraging suicide. Even on goodbye threads no one is saying, "great! So glad you decided to go through with ctb!! You made the right choice!" Like wtf if anything there are users trying to verify that the poster is really sure about their decision and doesn't have any other options in sight.

Because a lot of these idiots are foolish and don't understand people who are depressed with people who are going through something like that and don't realize that the wisest thing to do is wish that person love peace and respect in a moment like that and that in itself might make them want us to change their mind. Most of these people don't want anyone trying to talk them out of it.
What really gets me though is that they actually think shuting this website now it's going to solve anything. "Great! The website is down! We did it Catherine! 5K walk and some mcgriddles?? 💪"

Without this forum there's no hope for me.

I know it would be terrible to go on without the community but try to save everything regarding methods and instructions, it's a huge amount of content but if SS is shut down at least you'll have the infos in hand if you need and if you ever want to ctb, this is a very precious material, there's nothing alike on the internet, so save it to yourself, better safe than sorry

You will not be in trouble. Two major reasons:

1) Even if this bill were to pass, it would apply only to people posting from within the United States.

2) If this bill did pass, it would be quickly blocked in federal court. This is because it runs afoul of a law that already exists, the Communications Decency Act of 1996–specifically section 230. I'll let the Electronic Frontier Foundation explain:

Why CDA 230 Is So Important

EFF sometimes provides a legal defense to people and organizations. I suspect it would probably do so in this case, so here's their contact info, just in case. But I also believe the issue won't come to that.

Consider that essentially all the "instructions" we make available here come out of either the "Peaceful Pill Handbook" or "Final Exit." You know who sends out that info a hell of a lot more often than we do? Amazon.com. I've seen "Final Exit" in libraries, for that matter. As fun as we are for certain web slacktivists to kick, law enforcement agencies are not run for the fun of it. They have to at least pretend to make sense, and it makes no sense for them to prosecute you and me for talking about SN, but not Jeff Bezos. And Bezos' SN-bundle-peddling ass isn't going anywhere.

Do whatever you need to do: get a VPN, start using the Tor browser. Definitely keep your mouth shut about identifying information. Remember that when the New York Times couldn't figure out how else to punish this site's owners, they doxxed them. But also don't go running around screaming about how we're any more doomed than usual, because we aren't.

Yikes. Straw-buying weapons for people is a whole other thing. Any government in the world will take you down for that one. Freaky that somebody even asked.

I've read the posts on this thread and I may be late to the party, but I presume that you are correct, especially the 2nd reason. I'm an US citizen so this law may apply to me. Though I am banking on CDA 230 and the freedom of speech to block this legislation should it ever pass. Additionally, there are other organizations that I support too such as The Right To No Longer Exist, they are much smaller than us, but they have similar goals too, especially legalizing voluntary euthanasia for everyone. As far as I know, no they don't allow method discussion (legal and liability reasons), but they are as free as they can with discussion about suicide, the right to die, (true) death with dignity, etc.

Or Switzerland.
Wish I could just take a flight to a friend in Switzerland and waltz right on over to their suicide facilities: "Hey, here's my passport, here's my paperwork! Now I'd like to go to the N room!" To me, such a daydream feels a lot like heaven.
