From my perspective, life is grossly, hideously unfair. Some people thrive and others get thrown under the bus. To me it looks like a Hunger Games-type deal and it repulses me.

For the past 400 million years most animals including humans have been tortured and tortured to death by diseases, injuries, starvation, dehydration, parasites, old age, dementia, being eaten alive etc.

Look at nursing homes to see how most humans now end up old , demented, in extreme pain , immobile

DNA and evolution invented a nervous system and brain to be able to suffer extreme pain. For example if a human or other animal doesn't work constantly to find food and water then the animal will be tortured with the pain of extreme thirst and starvation.

This is just the basics of life. Then add all the lies like the hiding of the above and the hiding of the most absolute truth that every human will die no matter what happens etc. Then add all the scams, evil , injustice etc

Imo life is unfair. Inherently. On so so many levels! We only realise it later when somehow either we gain that experience or knowledge. Like how many diseases, traumas and other psychological complexities are only now understood but in earlier centuries people were treated as if it was their fault.
But I also believe another problem is that humans have advanced quite much in many disciplines, that we do tend to make even the most natural things complicated. We have created this trauma induced culture where either you play the game or get consumed by it. Noone has to feel that much guilt and blame when one isn't able to fulfill those parameters.
It's just confusing and meaningless world for me.

There is nothing really fair about life. Everything is determined by random factors out of our control, such as luck and chance. Many people are disadvantaged through no fault of their own. I see the unfairness of life as being very depressing. There is so much pain and suffering in this world and yet it is so difficult to exit.

It's made for us to survive. Not live, just survive. As long as we do, I say regardless of who we are (obviously matters for living), we can, must and hopefully will survive however we can. No moral or political or philosophical narrative can give a correct or wrong answer on it.

This seems to be a command to continue living...do you advocate against suicide completely?

I believe so. Even if reincarnation were real it doesn't matter as we have no memories of our past lives so the reincarnated "me" might as well be a brand new person.

on this earth there is a low percentage of selfish people who spend a lot of money on very expensive cars, luxury yachts and a life full of vices, and millions of people who struggle every day for a sip of water or a piece of bread, and who are unfortunate from birth.
life is not fair at all, but the exact opposite.

Life in inherently unfair. There's nothing to stop good things happening to bad people, and bad things happening to good people. Justice is not a natural phenomenon.

Justice, or fairness, is something we have to create for ourselves. That's why its a virtue.

No. Only in case the person can continue. I personally won't. If I commanded anybody to do something, it would be not to give life a value it will later betray them necessarily, because you know, suicidal mind can't fully recover, it's always there. A good reason for living is also a good reason for dying.

Or at least not to answer cosmic, grand and not imaginable questions. At the outset, it is so simple, can survive - survives. Can't survive - might as well leave early, no shame at all, even metaphorically.

I guess I was just trying to say, answering those grand questions amounts to nothing. I wouldn't say to somebody count your days either.

Wherever the line between survival and desire to live blurs and suicide becomes all the more possible and useful, I don't know. But I am convinced it is always there, like a fire extinguisher.

Life just isn't for everybody.

In my experience life is definitely unfair, especially to the good people of this sick, twisted world. Society is filled with inequality and injustice, where the arseholes of this world thrive and good people always seem to struggle through no fault of their own. I have always been a decent kind of person, yet have had a crappy life from day 1, even though I never did anything to deserve it. My cunt of a Mother was a narcissist who drove my real Father crazy, so He left Her when I was 7. She later married a really nasty guy when I was 10 who was a psyco and a pervert and was always looking at my 5 year old Sister in a sexual way.. Both so-called parents were experts at psychological abuse, and as a result I became very depressed and anxious, and as a result I suffered bullying at school because I was very withdrawn and was having really weird thoughts that I couldn't understand at the time. I only found out later in life that I was suffering from generalised anxiety disorder and clinical depression. I didn't have a girlfriend until I was 18, and I loved Her dearly yet She was having sex with my one and only so-called friend behind my back. This led to me having my second breakdown, (my first breakdown was aged 13, but nobody cared ). The second breakdown was extremely frightening because I began to experience depersonalisation and derealization which made me think that I was going insane. I began to drink heavily in order to calm my nerves, and as a result became an alcoholic. This is just a small part of my experience with this so-called life. For being a good, genuine person I have had my life messed up for no reason whatsoever, and 50 plus years later nothing has changed: people walk all over you because you are kind and compassionate, and everything you try just goes wrong. Yet the nasty people of this world are admired and successful. I honestly don't know how the fuck I've survived this long, I really don't. I have a theory this world is some kind of prison where the arseholes of this world are put here to torment us, and everything we do is cursed. I also believe that IF there is a God , then this God character is a cunt, and a very evil cunt too. I could go on for hours about this stuff but basically I'm convinced that there is some kind of shitfuckery going on in the world where the game of life is rigged for certain types of people. Maybe there is some kind of unseen force who likes to play with us, not God, but something else, like demons and that kind of shit. I doubt I'll ever find the answer, but then again I have truly gone past caring anymore.

No. It isn't fair.

I'm the beneficiary of a 'lottery' life. I was admitted into Cambridge. I come from a wealthy family. I would have never, ever, ever gotten into Cambridge without having the experiences facilitated to me because of my background. I realised life isn't a meritocracy when people like me have such an unfair advantage from the get-go.

I grew up always hearing that life isn't fair. I'm not sure how you can really ask if it is because if it was you wouldn't really wonder.

No, it certainly isn't. Let's start with who's allowed to become parents, shall we? Why, it's everyone. There's not even a little quiz, or a three day course. That's the beginning, and folks wonder why things go to shit.

Lol yeh you just do something fun briefly for 5 minutes and boom here come a bunch of new humans

And then when you create a bunch of new humans they all want SUVs and when there isn't enough oil left in your area for SUVs you genocide people halfway across the globe

No it's not. I can't see a justifiable reason why kids get cancer, why some people suffer from war/drought/starvation because they were unlucky to be born in a poor country, why it's acceptable to euthanize animals but not humans.

Christians have a justifiable reason why kids get cancer. It's all part of gods plan

@Cheza_mus - I've actually never heard this quote. Seems most people here share some version of the sentiment that life isn't fair. Would be curious to hear more about where you came across this quote and what your thoughts are on it?

Would anyone want to attempt the argument that life actually IS somehow fair? I tend to think, even by the strict Christian view that "everything happens for a reason" or that "it's all part of God's plan" that even THEY don't argue that life is fair, just that God has a grander plan for it all. Take the story of Job—I don't think even the most devout Christians think that what happened to Job was fair, just that God knew that he was a man of strong enough faith to endure it.
