Discussion Is consuming media the only thing that keeps you going?

I'm curious if anyone else feels like the only thing stopping you from ctb is any kind of entertainment media you love, like you can't die because your favourite artist is dropping an album that you're really exited for, or a show you like is coming out with a new season.


personally, what kept me alive for so long was waiting for hades 2 to come out then when it did, it became waiting for silksong to come out, after that it was waiting for the new invincible season, it literally feels like even tho my life is miserable and i wanna ctb so bad, every time i actually make the decision i get intense fomo for everything that's gonna come out after i die.

does anyone else deal with this?

Yeah, actually. I had planned to ctb much sooner, but ironically Superman (2025) made me rethink my choices and stay around for a while longer, but im back again, and waiting for subnautica 2 most likely, but life has always been a bitch

It used to be, but these past few years I have been bored of everything aside from the occasional book I read. Some books I definitely would not have ctb while reading them as they felt more real than reality.

Otherwise, I can only enjoy media through other people now as second hand enjoyment. The only thing that makes me want to ctb less is other people's attention and praise, but this doesn't particularly last and nor is it worth the effort I put in to acquire it.

This is quite literally happening to me lol
A game series I'm obsessed with right now is dropping a new new line of games (which has the potential to become the first in a line of 7 games) so that's basically what I'm hanging on for

i don't know if it's the media itself or more just dissociative effect it provides. i try and keep myself permanently distracted

Partly? Like there's been so many times I was gonna attempt to ctb but then a new update for one of my obsessions would come out and I'd think "if I literally just live one more day and see it, then I'll be at peace" bc the last thing I want is to be half way on the way to death and be thinking about how I won't get to see my fav characters new video because I couldn't wait 12 hours

I think it works as a really good motivator to live but now that I'm trying to lock in with the prospect of ctb possibly this year, I'm trying to disengage with this mindset and telling myself that there will always be things I will never get to see or do again and it's the price I have to pay. Thats why getting into already competed stuff is good. Don't have to worry about missing the newest content if I've already rewatched it beginning to end 3 times.

this used to be the case for me. it's so sad, i used to love consuming my favourite medias so much. my life was literally surrounded around them, but now i don't even find enjoyment in them either

I can't pay attention to real art anymore.

What keeps me going during the couch/bedrot is YouTube chatter and phone games.

It helps me pass the time but a piece of media definitely would not stop me from killing myself if I felt ready.

Yeah definitely i mean back when i first started struggling id just have to set plans for myself in the future. Right now im waiting on getting my concerts done with ive spent like £700 i deserve that much. Last concert was meant to be on the 12th july but kinda agreed to one on the 11th September i think but that was around the time i was gonna go so no clue if im gonna make that one
