Hypothetically if you could choose to die peacefully, would it be irrational to do other wise?

I made a post similar asking if ctb is always rational. Now thinking about I could've phrased it better.

I think living is irrational because there is bound to be suffering aslong as you are alive.
I also think death is neutral since you will not experience anything.

It's only rational if you have the right options meaning if you can envision a future for yourself and life is worth living then yes it is rational but if you're completely out of options and there's no prerogative then that's when it's irrational

I enjoy watching my favorite shows, listening to music, eating and traveling. I don't even have a partner or extremely wealth yet i enjoy life to certain extent. It's just that life can sometimes be too cruel giving you one problem on top of another with no real way of solving it and the uncertainty of how people will treat you. I'd say most of the time it's rational to live if you're physically and mentally fit. But if you're unlucky then it's a whole different story

First off; most 'normal' people (don't mean to offend, and I include myself in the abnormal category) do not ideate dying as much as we do, if at all. Secondly; most 'normal' people find purpose and fufilment in human life and take the suffering for granted. I think it's all about balance. I'm definitely out of balance and am therefore here.

Living is not inherenty rational. It's biological. The fear of death outweighs the suffering for the majority of people, so they continue. Or they have a happy life. Idk what that looks like but it seems to be a thing.

Life may not be worth living in the moment, but you do not know for sure what the future will look like. I do not view choosing to live or choosing to die as irrational. As long as you think through your options and make a conscious choice there should be no judgement passed on whichever path you choose. I know that I will eventually choose to die, but for right now, in this moment, I am choosing to live. The choice I am making now is rational. When my time comes to die, that choice too will be rational.

Normal people don't have happy lifes either trust me.
They are just too wrapped up in religion or have too much hope.
And They are scared of death.

Said it before and say it again, quality vs quantity of life.

With 24/7 chronic pain if and when quantity overtake quality then decisions will be made.

With 2 attempts, both were not rational, knee jerk, spot of the moment type, never would do that again, but also do not have a gambling addict living with me anymore.

For me it could never be, for me only ceasing to exist could ever be as after all there are no disadvantages to never suffering ever again yet there is no limit as to how much one can be tortured in this terrible, dreadful existence of futile suffering that I just always saw as a mistake. To suffer in this existence will just always be an abomination to me and I wish I never suffered in this terrible, torturous existence more than anything, I'll just always see existence as the problem and it's one only non-existence can solve for me.

I'll always see it as so unnecessary and futile to suffer in this existence and never existing would had saved me from all this suffering in this existence so dreadful that just tortures existing beings all for the sake of it, it's just so terrible and horrible how a human can be tortured in this existence for decades longer just for one to face the dreadful extreme agony of old age, to me existing will always just be waiting to die.

For me, living is irrational most of the time. I can't honestly say I hate it all the time but, I do hate it the majority of the time.

It comes down to what life requires. Both in terms of working and self/ home environment care. All of which feel like never ending chores. I've basically got it as good as I can get. I've worked hard to get a job I found tolerable. But then- it still requires so much from me. Staying alive requires constant effort. And, if I choose neglect and to shirk my chores- I realise I'll suffer even more. So- that doesn't feel like a good option either.

Plus, there's the whole f*cked up setup that things that actually bring comfort- like enjoyable food and sitting down hurt our health. Which, is also on the decline for me.

But effectively- living is irrational for me overall, because I hate what it requires. Plus, the redeeming factors to it really aren't enough to compensate- in my experience.

So, it absolutely feels like rational thinking to me. If we experience something as a difficult problem that has no adequate solution then- the situation becomes intolerable.

Extreme Pain is much worse than people know
Aug 12, 2019

i think wanting to live is irrational

there are many reasons but here are just a few.

this is all my opinion

the worst pain and the most horrible things outweigh the pleasurable or what they say are the "good" things by a billion times.

there is always a possibility of a human or other animal falling into a horrible nightmare trap or into long lasting continuous constant unbearable pain the individual cannot move away from

to me living is working so hard suffering every day just to risk extreme torture and unbearable agony a trillion times worse than the worst one can imagine.

it seems i and every human forgets how bad pain is

if you burn your hand on a hot stove you immediately pull away the pain is so bad.

we can remember intellectually the pain was bad but our weak brain can't recreate the exact feeling of the pain that was so heinous it has no words.

the hand was in contact with the hot stove a mere 1/4 of a second . but what is worth that pain ? is any pleasurable addiction garbage worth even that 1/4 second of that pain? not to me . not any shit clickbait "entertaining" video not any food sandwich etc. i don't need any of that garbage but pain is unbearable .and i don't want to go through even 3 seconds unbearable pain .

what if some gang held a hand there flat on a red hot stove for longer 10 seconds? what is worth that continuous unbearable pain? again nothing to me . 1O seconds would be many times worse than the 1/4 second .

what about all the bare skin of the body put against scalding hot 800 degrees steel , a giant scalding hot griddle. the pain would be millions of times worse than just a hand on a stove . and then holding that pain for 10 seconds ?

what if the peak of that burning of the whole skin was held and stretched out to 5 minutes? an hour , days , weeks, months?

it's the brain that can create such unbearable agony and torture.

The brain is an extreme torture chamber

a human or other animal is alive and conscious and so can be tortured as i described roasting alive or put in the Brazen Bull . but if the individual is dead putting them in the brazen or roasting boiling them won't hurt them because the brain is not functioning.

that's what i am a brain that can suffer unending continuous unbearable pain such as i described above

we can start to see that pain outweighs pleasurable things by many orders of magnitude.

life and the fleeting pleasure addictions fly fast as in a few blinks of an eye, how fast did this year the last 5 years fly by? : but the most horrific thing is that the worst pain as in the brazen bull each second can seem to last forever and must be avoided at all costs. if pain were tolerable then a lot of people would just go lay down and then get kick out homeless. but thirst hunger cold wind etc keep people slaves working to keep those pains away . you have to get up and shower dress work just to get water food shelter. and you know that thirst will get unbearable for water .

yeah if i didn't fear pain of homelessness starvation thirst cold wind etc then i wouldn't work do anything and just wait for Death because we all will die and cease to exist for all time. but while i'm alive is the problem that i could suffer unbearable and i will but only while alive

to me the worst pain outweighs fleeting meaningless pleasurable or enjoyable garbage by a billion times.

each of these could require several chapters to explain and to give examples
