I think there are different levels of this question.

Media would say the biggest risk if you spend time on SaSu is that this suicide cult convinces you that suicide is the greatest thing ever. And then you kill yourself because this forum convinces you of that.

Personally, I almost killed myself at the end of 2024. And I think I would not have had such profound method knowledge without SaSu. At the same time, there are a lot of horror stories about failed suicides on here and one lesson of this website is no matter which method you choose it can all go horribly wrong and you end up in a way worse position than before. So think twice about what you do. I think it surely has a different impact on different people. And I think this forum had a pretty good development. There were crackdowns of extreme anti-life content. Me and some others wanted that the pro-mortalists have less influence on other members. I am not sure when this discussion peaked maybe 1-2 years ago. But the development of this forum was very positive overall.
Bottom line the biggest threat according to the media is you might lose your life.

The thing I worry way more about is the following. Is it illegal to be on Sanctioned Suicide and could we all end in jail eventually. I worried a lot about that when the NYT article was published I think back in 2021. I took a break of this forum but I I wanted to return so badly so I came back after one week. Nothing can compare to SaSu on the internet. I think some people probably did something illegal on here. Most likely if they break forum rules. And you could get in legal trouble for that. But how likely is that? There was a murderer on here and one terrorist. But the danger wasn't to be on SaSu for them. It was what they did in real life. Could we all get into legal trouble solely for having an account on here? I am not sure. I am not sure whether being on SaSu is one of the most dangerous things I do. Would they differentiate between how vulnerable the member on here was? Because on the one hand they portray as as seduced by the evil death cult. Maybe they want to get only a few bad people. But I am not entirely sure. The punishment probably depends on which country you live in. I could imagine the people in Europe could be punished harder than in the US. But the law enforcement probably knows the people on here already have a pretty bad hand in life, victims of several types of abuse is common. Which benefit would it have to crackdown on them? Furthermore, it would be very immoral because suicide shouldn't not be illegal at the same you have to commit crimes in order to kill yourself. Or you have to pay huge fines if you survive a train suicide for example. Overall, I think it is rather unlikely it will happen to me. Even with this risk, the risk-benefit ratio is clear for my case. I couldn't imagine life without SaSu currently.

Last bad not least. There is another danger. We all could get doxxed and pilloried on the internet for being on here. The same people who claim to care for us, wish us the most horrible things. This forum has a lot of enemies on the internet. Even if some of them pretend to be saints with good faith I have some justified doubts about their intentions. The conflict of interest is clear. Also the media bias. Look at scientifical studies about this topic in contrast.

What do you think?

I don't think being on SaSu is inherently dangerous. Nor do I think it's bad. It's your decision after all. The methods we give are not supposed to convince people to die, only to help the people who are dead set on it.

To answer the overarching question I wouldn't definitively say it's one of the most dangerous things you do in your life. I think it depends on what you do with the info that's presented here. Personally I refuse to DM anyone or get attached to people on here, as the forum would start to become more hurtful than helpful for me at that point. Or provide info on methods/instruct others.

Though I will say I've had your worry. But there are people from all over the spectrum here. Nobody has pushed me to make a decision that I wasn't already going to make.

Well, if you are immature / emotionally very unstable that you can't control yourself then you shouldn't be here. it says that in the tos too. The website isn't for people who aren't mature enough.

It's not illegal to have an account?... It's not like we bully and harass others to commit suicide. We just help / give advice to other struggling people and accept their choice. I'm 100% sure you won't get arrested for using SS except you, I don't know, make active threatening of terrorism or murder someone. I don't know if I'm missing something, but why would it be illegal??
Except if you are in a country where it's banned (if I'm right, it's in; Germany, UK or US (I forgot which I think UK), turkey and Italy) still, I doubt you'll get in bad trouble for that. People always use VPNs to bypass shit. I never see someone getting arrested for having a VPN and bypassing a ban..

Likeeee... Not everyone on a Reddit forum would get in trouble just because there are a few people in there who do bad things and get in trouble / arrested. As long as you aren't a part of it you're fine.

Impressionable people are impressionable. It is wrong to exploit or take advantage of such people knowingly, and that should always be discouraged and prevented. But the world can't just stop because impressionable people are impressionable.

I can't handle something that most people are able to handle. The solution to that isn't for everyone to stop doing the thing just because *I* can't handle it. That helps no one, including me.

Someone once said something like "no bad book ever ruined a good person." It was a response to similar conversation about people being influenced by the ideas of others to do bad things. The truth is somewhere in the middle. I mean, a good person doesn't read a book about torture and suddenly want to go torture people for fun. IF that change in behavior happens, it's because the person wanted to torture people deep down and just needed "permission."

Experiences and new knowledge more typically reveal who we are or want to be moreso than shape us.

I'm not talking about abuse. Abuse can also show you who you are by how you respond to it... but also abuse can change you fundamentally. This is why we shouldn't take advantage of impressionable people and we should try to be mindful of them, steer them away from things we know they are unable to handle... but blaming the existence of influential things for why people do one thing or another is a path to madness for everyone.

Dejected55 nailed my ideas dead on. I look at SaSu as a tool that can be used or abused. I've done way more dangerous things in my life - and feel free to substitute "stupid" for dangerous. Growing up in rural areas, we had access to firearms, home-made explosives and no police within 60 miles. Hell, I remember walking into the hardware store at around 15 and buying FFFFg blackpowder to blow up rocks in field (with fertilizer and diesel fuel). I even used incense as delayed fuse - talk about stupid.

I do not think of SaSu as swaying me one way or the other. What this site does allow me to do is to express what I'm thinking and/or feeling to such a level that it gives me a better understanding of where I am emotionally....and for me, that is not dangerous, but helpful.

less dangerous. it killed that abstract idea of suicide being preferable in my head and replaced it with the rough complications of it.

the loneliness and allure to the mysterious ideal of suicide was far more dangerous than any rough reality of how it actually is in the real world. i learned so much about human life here. love, ambition, hope, curiosity, art, philosophy. this forum has been a beneficial effect upon my life. it has helped me see that life is not as simple as i thought it was. it made me more self-conscious. and that no matter what, someone else is feeling and finding confusing discovering the same pain i am. that comforts me.

to know that MY experience and MY pain and MY loneliness, aren't some random isolated kicking around, but are REAL and still valid; a real part of the entire human condition.

I am more than my confusion. I am one incomplete life's curiosity and pain and knowledge and insight. I am a part of a greater whole.

We are all alone in this together.

I can always have another shot at learning what I really want.

Being on here is probably the least dangerous things I have done in my life and probably one of the best things I have done for my current state of mental health. Here I am able to get advice, knowledge, and acceptance for the way my screwed up brain works. My own ctb is probably the least talked about subject I'm discussing. Nobody is or will ever force me into doing anything I don't want to. As far as illegal or not. I'm not really worried about the police kicking my door in for being on SaSu. Now reddits suicide watch most of that should be illegal. There's 13 and 14 year old kids on there. Actually being trolled by some freaks. That should be illegal.

Words can't express how fucking paranoid I am of getting doxxed. I don't have a big internet presence with my main persona but I still have a presence nonetheless and the last thing I want to happen are some jackasses claiming I tell kids to shoot themselves for fun. Especially considering my personality: to someone who barely knows me, that wouldn't seem like much of a stretch.

But hey, I've been active on here for almost a year now and nothing's happened (i think) so all is well ig.

Being here most probably is the reason why I haven't done something dangerous to myself yet. This place has been like a lifeline.

Oh MY God! My heart just melted! 🥰🥰🥰🥰

Same. I am very vocal about the fact this place literally did what a husband, several therapists, and friends, relatives, etc. could not do -- you guys UNDERSTOOD me, let me say things that a therapist would have sectioned me for, and helped me find the courage to handle some issues that were haunting me and literally driving me insane -- and because of that I am in a recovery. NO ONE I know irl thought I would get better.

This place made that happen for me and I will spend the rest of my life repaying that kindness. It will never happen, of course, but it would be really nice if those who report on this site would share some of our recoveries with the world, instead of taking our losses here and turning them into something they are not.

It is not for me to judge the who, what, where, when of someone wanting to leave this place. It IS my place to provide comfort, support and a soft hand for those who have decided to leave. I would NEVER encourage someone else to kill themselves. At the same time, I cannot find it in myself to do anything other than comfort someone who has decided to go on as best I can.

The SaSu forum saved me from a gory ctb. If I didn't found out about this forum I would have ctb in a potentially very messy way, thanks to this forum I chose SN as my method, and the SN method is not gory or messy at all.

I don't remember the name of the youtuber, but I found out about this forum via a youtube video back in 2024.
