I wouldn't be able to get there, and I think my application would be rejected.

I would trust your Pegasos corresponder in your emails than someone's article online that isn't citing any Swiss government page.

I might try to apply if I can get a diagnosis for my neurological problems that cause me so much pain. But there are so many things... first you need to have the money, you need a person to go with you and lots of other problems...

and how does it work if you go there and die there does Pegasos inform your country of origin about your death? There is so much that doesn't make sense to me about it.

If you're unable to have people to go with you, you can have someone verify your death. It's outlined in their FAQ.

Confirmation of death is not necessary, far as I am concerned. Everything will be confirmed through Swiss law and will never travel outside of Switzerland.

Their website says:
Pegasos believes that it is the human right of every rational adult of sound mind, regardless of state of health, to choose the manner and timing of their death.
But they can't follow through on that sentiment it seems.

Been in the forums for about a month, doing a lot of reading and learning ...

Pegasos has become my choice. I reached out to them to see if they would answer a few questions about getting approved before applying for the VAD, they responded within 12-hours requesting more info about me. I then sent them my "story" asking if I would ever even be considered - still awaiting a response. Fingers crossed.

Simultaneously I reached out to Exit Int'l (I bought PPH but am not a member yet) asking them if becoming a LIFE member is a *guarantee* to have one of their team members assist and be the identifier at Pegasos since that is my only option as I would be alone – still awaiting response. Fingers crossed.

I have been planning and getting my affairs in order for several months. I am hoping, praying (and everything else) that I will get approved.

Even if you are not a lifetime member, Pegasos will help you arrange an identifier. Best of luck. ♥️

I'll PM you

Actually you can't PM yet. Do you have a physical Illness at all? What's your age?
Yes, the newbie in the room - so I can't PM yet. I have refrained from commenting as I am still educating myself and reading. However this thread was something that I could comment on.
I have NO physical or mental illness, however deadly diseases/ailments run in my family, almost everyone has passed away already, I am 52.

Pegasos said that papa qualifies , and he's considering applying. Papa is looking forward to hearing what Pegasos replies to you. Papa's usp-grade Sodium Nitrite order arrived in the mail at his home, and this seems more peaceful to him ( than international travel during "carumba virus" (as he calls it).

Thank you . If you have time in Basel to post on this thread , it will be a celebrated first on this cutting-edge website :o) Will boarding at O'Hare require paperwork/Pegasos ? We have to fly to O'Hare because our International Airport = strictly domestic flights for 11 weeks. Today reservations informed us " due to the pandemic these reservations are tentative and fully refundable . "

This is some info that I first posted about a month ago in a thread called "I'm Considering Pegasos." ( https://sanctioned-suicide.net/thre...-considering-pegasos.27483/page-6#post-525913) Read the whole thread if you have some time: some good info by others, some misinformation, some rather strange but perhaps understandable reactions.

What is Pegasos?
Pegaos Swiss Association is a voluntary assisted dying (VAD) organization based in Basel, Switzerland. Pegasos believes that it is the human right of every rational adult of sound mind, regardless of state of health, to choose the manner and timing of their death.
Cost of VAD

TOTAL10,000
Service
Assessments and administration3,000
VAD Appointment, incl. Medical Consultation's4,300
Funeral Services etc.2,150
Post VAD Administration550

Do you need to be terminally ill to come to Pegasos?
No, it is not necessary to be terminally ill to be accepted for a VAD at Pegasos.

Does Pegasos accept young, depressed or suicidal people?
Pegasos does not accept young people with depression or other severe mental illness. Rather, Pegasos will refer such applications to counselling services such as those published on the Pegasos website.

Do you accept young people?
At Pegasos we accept applications from adults over the age of 18 years only.

Do you accept people with mental illness?
Mental illness is a vexed issue. At Pegasos we believe that you can still have mental capacity even if you suffer from long term depression. The most important thing is to tell us of your mental illness and then we can work with you for the best outcome.

Does Pegasos help 'well' people to die?
Pegasos believes that for a person to be in the headspace of considering ending their lives, their quality of life must be qualitatively poor. Pegasos accepts that some people who are not technically 'sick' may want to apply for a VAD. But this does not mean the person is 'well'. Professor David Goodall was one of these people. He was not sick but his eye sight was failing him, as was his mobility. Old age is rarely kind. The decision to end one's life is an intensely personal one. Pegasos makes every effort to understand fully the unique circumstances of everyone who makes contact with us.

How exactly does a person die at Pegasos?
Pegasos generally uses the intravenous method of Nembutal administration. This involves having a cannula inserted into one's arm and a solution of the lethal drug fed into your body from a 'line' that is controlled by a 'tap'. However, if preferred, a person can also have the option of taking a small drink. In this case, anti-emetic (anti-vomiting) drugs will also need to be taken. Other approaches are also available. These can be discussed with Pegasos once the VAD application is approved.

How long does it take to die?
After the sodium pentobarbital starts flowing intraveneously, the person goes to sleep usually within a few seconds and dies quickly afterwards. If a person takes the Nembutal as a drink, the process is a bit longer.

Can I choose the actual method for my VAD?
Yes, Pegasos is all ears when it comes to a person's individual preferences. The options are an intravenous infusion or a small drink.

How do I control the actual VAD myself?
If you have elected intravenous administration of the Nembutal, you need to be able rotate the small wheel that opens the IV line that will be attached to the cannula in your arm. If you have weakness in your fingers or limited movement in your hands and and arms, then Pegasos has developed an ingenious device that requires a simple bump to start the infusion. This can be operated with one's arm, body or even feet. A slight turn of the head also works and even with your tongue. If you have chosen to drink the drugs, the least you will need to be able to do is swallow. If you do not have movement of your arms, you must be able to suck the liquid through a straw. If you do have movement of your arms then this method should present no problems for you.

If I choose to drink the drugs, is there a risk that I will vomit?
As there is always a risk of vomiting with anything we put in our mouths, to ensure that vomiting does not affect your VAD, Pegasos will provide highly-effective, anti-emetic drugs.

What happens after I die?
After your VAD, Pegasos will call the authorities who will attend our clinic. These officials will be friendly and very sensitive to the fact that you have just lost someone you loved very much. Once the authorities are satisfied that your death was voluntary and was initiated by you, Pegasos will call the funeral home who will come and collect your body. Your ashes will be available five days later. Your ashes can be either mailed home to your family or collected by your designated contact person.
I couldn't stop imagining the whole article about Pegasos and the last part feels really sad to me and i don't know why but it makes me feel really sad :(

This is not entirely accurate. Younger patients they do not allow to apply for VAD with a history of mental health problems. If you're older they will work with you under Swiss law to see if you are eligible for the green light.

Any foreign nationals who wish to enter Switzerland directly from a high-risk country will be refused entry. The following persons in particular are affected by the entry ban:

  • Persons who wish to obtain services in Switzerland;
  • Tourists, visitors and participants in events;
  • Persons who wish to come to Switzerland for medical treatment;
  • Persons seeking employment in Switzerland;
  • Persons who wish to submit an application for a residence permit.

The following are considered high-risk countries:

  • All countries except the Schengen states.

I'm thikning about it. I have a little more fight in me again, but am thinking about Pegasos - I get the impression they might accept people with mental illness. I am planning to contact them this week. If you don't mind me asking, is that why you contacted them or is it another reason?

My ex boyfriend told me he'd come with me - which just blew me away. It's the most supported I have ever felt when he said that. Saying that, I am more frightened of going to Pegasos than taking an OD at home. To go to a place to be assisted to die feels a lot more scary than taking an OD at home. But I think I like that Pegasos is professional and guaranteed death too.

My family wouldn't support it either - though I have been asking them for hte past year to say goodbye to me, because I am feeling tortured. But they can't understand that - it's all about them!!!

I think I have to try some more medications before I go for this option - for the sake of my family and just in case anything works. But have tried so many things already.
Hi! Im trying to read about vad clinics and peoples experiences here. May I ask if they accepted you? Are you planning to have a VAD?

I emailed them about my situation thinking they'd automatically reject me due to age and circumstances, but surprisingly they told me to apply. You know your life is sad when applying for assisted suicide gets you excited lol. Is anyone else considering pegasos? Funnily enough I won't have anyone by my side either way, whether I do it in a hotel room or in a clinic. My family would never support it so I'd end up being alone anyway
what is your age and what did you tell them was your reason for wanting to apply?
