is it weird to feel bad about people from the hotel finding your body afterwards. I'm finding myself feeling concerned about what happens to the body after death and the hassle I'll leave behind to those people. Finding a dead body is already as about traumatizing as it gets but idk i want it to make it as easy as possible for them. Is this an odd way of thinking ?

No. To be honest I has the same thoughts too. I ended not ctb due to the guilt of the staff finding me. That plus anyone else in the hotel that may end up witnessing my body being removed. In essence, there is nothing wrong about taking into consideration how others may be affected by what's done.

I thought of doing it at a hotel so that my house would not be tainted. And I thought of doing it at home so that only a professional officer would find the body. Almost like there's no winning.

@Drakkamora i want to leave a note or something you can see the moment you enter the room. Idk why but i feel really bad when i think about how fast the body starts to fall apart after death and for some reason i want to cause the least amount of problems.
@Pluto i feel you. I personally do not want my parents to find me. Being dead is already bad enough but thinking about how sn leaves the body after death. I know it'll completely break them if they saw me like that. Which is why I'm doing it in a hotel.
Wishing that it was possible to just not exist anymore tbh

I found a dead body once, in a tent in a park. The tent had collapsed on him so I could see his body shape. I didn't see him except the top if his head, but I felt him and tried to wake him by rocking him with my hand. I could tell he was dead then

Emergency services were called. I later found out his girlfriend had kicked him out because of his drinking. He'd died of heart failure.

I wasn't at all traumatised by it. I think it's because I didn't know him.

I did see the body of someone I loved though, she died by suicide. I went to see her at the funeral home. That was 25 years ago and that image has never left me. I decided after seeing her I would never opt to see the body of a loved one again.

I kissed her and said goodbye. She didn't look like her though; she looked like a wax work.

There is a reason for that: SI - It will create a thousand ways to divert you, how about reading this book, how about watching this movie, maybe one shot is not enough, maybe you jump off a skyscraper and become a vegetable, etc

In big hotels they are used to dealing with that kind of thing, suicide in hotels is common.

@trucker247 I feel you. I wrote a letter, too. But still I couldn't just for the guilt of traumatizing innocent people

I was thinking of sending a timed email to reception at the hotel with my room and that I've passed away, they should send paramedics to the room. Reckon something like that would work? Not sure how quickly the email would be viewed maybe there's another way to alert the right people after your passing

I'm planning to hang a sign up alerting the housekeeping staff or whoever that there's a dead body in the room so they don't walk in any further. Hopefully it will only be the police who really have to deal with my body, but I still feel bad.

I am terrified. I am worried that my family will have the worst reaction. I'm worried that I will miss future opportunities. But why would I care? I'd be dead.

I can appreciate your feelings about your body after death, people finding you etc... I don't think it's necessarily an odd way of thinking. It's just what's important to you. I'm sure with time you'll find something that makes it work for you. I'm in my 50's. Don't live remotely near any family. They're not going to "find"me. There will be no notes. So my situation sounds a bit different from yours. I'm so sorry you have all these extra things to consider. Again, you don't have an odd way of thinking. You just need to find what works for you.

People die in hotels all the time from both natural causes and suicide. I doubt the staff will be traumatized unless you use a very violent method like hanging or shooting yourself. The larger chain hotels have a protocol in place for when a guest dies on the property. The paramedics will be discrete and will take your body down the service elevator and out the back entrance. Its not likely that the other hotel guests will even notice. You can write a note warning the staff not to come in the room and to call the police and put it near the entrance to the room where they will see it before they enter the bedroom area, or you can send a delayed email to the police and schedule it right before checkout time so they will be the ones to find you.

I feel bad that someone has to find me. I got over that by realizing that even if I die of natural causes someone will have to find my body. I would rather have a stranger who doesn't know me or care about me find me rather than have a relative or friend come to my house and find me dead. I don't want their last memory of me to be walking in and seeing my dead body.

I think a lot about ctb out in the woods, particularly because I'd probably go by firearm, and that's messy. There are apps that will tell you your exact lat and long coordinates—so long as you're not so far out there you've got no signal. I kind of figured I'd send a delayed e-mail to the cops saying "dead body at coordinates xyz."

this is what I plan on doing as well, how much of a delay are you thinking?

This is genuinely such a good idea. I can tell you from experience that receptionists always have their e-mail open and are on the lookout for new incoming bookings. You can ask them for their e-mail once you're there and they should give you it or preferably book directly on their page, you should automatically receive their e-mail that way so you won't have to ask.

I've thought about this so much. I've seen too many dead bodies (lost a lot of family and used to be in medical field) and I don't want to do that to anyone. I plan on hotel because I especially don't want my family finding me. I figured set up a chair at the door with a sign/note to call cops. I hadn't thought about an email though..hmm.

It's very normal to think these things. Remember we are human with human emotions and feelings. I try too hard not to think about it because it will give me a panic attack and it's SI trying to divert you from going through with it. You shouldn't have to feel guilty about it. It's the circle of life everyone will die and someone will discover your body whether it's now or when you're 80. The only ones that should fell guilty are the people that drove you to CTB.

No- I think it's a considerate way to think. I do understand why people use hotels- it does seem preferable than family members having to discover your body.

Still- there are definitely things you could do to make it easier on the hotel. Make a sign warning the staff not to enter the room but to call the police- maybe put this on a chair or tape it acoss the hallway to try and block access. You could also alert them to your method on this- and what to expect- what PPE they might want to wear. Take thick plastic sheeting with you to reduce the mess. Perhaps take along your own bedding if you don't want to mess up theirs. I've even considered leaving some money for the poor sods who have to clean up- although I don't know if they'd be allowed to keep it.

It's not ideal- but I expect hotels are insured for this sort of thing and you can do everything possible to minimize the impact. Plus- honestly- it's not really our 'fault.' I expect many of us would prefer to use assisted suicide clinics if they were available to us.

The way that I see it, it's irrational to care so much about that as we simply won't be there at that point. Whatever happens in this world after we are gone could never be our concern and that's just the way that things are. Death is the most normal and inevitable thing ever after all and it's all that we are intended for as existing beings anyway.
