@Jenjoh2358 and I are working on creating Sanctioned Suicide Spanish, from here I think that the members can collaborate in creating more sites like thisThese may as well be the last days of this. If it ever happen (god forbids) then i hope we find a way back here somehow
No this is basically saying they're not going to press any criminal charges, because assisted suicide charge is intended for a specific instance and intent of one individual to another and there's no proof of that. It's also not in their jurisdiction since no deaths occurred in Uruguay.Google translation:
The Sanctioned Suicide website, created in March 2018, is being investigated by Interpol Uruguay after a journalistic investigation published in the New York Times (NYT) reported that the site, accused of promoting suicide, is run by a Uruguayan who lives in Montevideo.
According to the NYT journalistic report, one of those responsible for the site is a 29-year-old Uruguayan, the son of a renowned lawyer, while the other alleged person responsible for the website, 28, was located in Huntsville, a city in Alabama. , in the southeastern United States.
The alleged founders of the site interact with users under the pseudonyms Serge and Marquis, and with that name they unleashed a fierce defense of the website, which has been investigated for at least three years by authorities in several countries.
When contacted by the NYT, one of them said he did not know why his credit card is associated with the site, while the other stated that it is a site that improves people's quality of life, and lamented the suicides.
At the end of 2019, a forensic doctor in England denounced the site after verifying that from there they had advised a young man to take his own life. There are also open investigations in Germany, Italy and Australia for similar cases.
The NYT journalists assure that they connected 45 cases of suicides of people who had previously registered on the website, which disseminates methods to commit suicide and particularly the use of a poison used to preserve meat.
The researchers found more than 500 goodbye messages and specific cases that include minors in the United States, United Kingdom, Italy, Canada and Australia.
The site, which has six million visits per month, was created after various social media platforms banned forums with similar content; after the investigations carried out, Australia, Italy and Germany made the site inaccessible in their countries.
Interpol sources told the newspaper that the issue has been being analyzed since Saturday by the computer crimes unit, which is checking journalistic information and collecting data on the sources and the platform to analyze whether it merits reporting to the Prosecutor's Office. Work is also being done to confirm the identity of the people to whom the web address is attributed and their specific responsibility for the sites and what kind of evidence could be obtained.
The sources indicated that despite the dissemination of the journalistic note, they have not received any communication from any foreign country about this case, so they will analyze the steps to follow in the next few days. The Office of the Attorney General of the Nation reported that there is no ex officio investigation so far.
Article 315 of the Uruguayan Penal Code establishes the crime of assisting suicide for "whoever determines another to commit suicide or helps him commit it", and provides penalties of between six months in prison and six years in prison if the death takes place. The code provides for an aggravation with a penalty of up to 12 years in prison "when the crime is committed with respect to a person under 18 years of age or a subject of intelligence or will depressed by mental illness or by the abuse of alcohol or the use of narcotics ".
Judicial sources consulted by the newspaper doubted that this classification could be applied in this case, because it is not clear what are the facts that can be attributed to those responsible for the network, and they believed that the crime of assisting suicide is directed at the direct intervention in a specific case and the figure is not attributable to someone who promotes suicide in general terms through a publication. In addition, there must be a discussion of which is the jurisdiction to which it corresponds to act, so it must be analyzed if there are Uruguayan victims and where the sites involved in the investigation are housed.
In 2020, 718 people committed suicide in Uruguay, with an increase in the age group from 30 to 34 years that registered 72 cases, when in 2019 it had registered 45. Suicides also increased in the age group from 15 to 19 years, with 13 cases more than in 2019. It is estimated that 2021 will close with an increase compared to 2020 as a "rebound effect" of the pandemic. The numbers for free suicide prevention advice and care are 0800 0767 and * 0767.
Me too I mostly been lurking here but got worried over this. The truth is there's no legal case for any of it. I just heard the conversation with Kara Swisher. There's nothing that can be done like that it's all just theater BUT some of the tech companies might make it really hard to stay up. Not all of them though.Makes me wonder if they'll be on Exits case and the pph. They're financially benefiting where that's not the case here as far as I'm aware.
Hope things aren't about to go sour. I've found solace in being able to apeak openly here and it's kept me going to a large extent.
I will use HostgatorEven if they take down this website someone will create another, and another, and again another.
Best option would be to use an anonymous web host that takes crypto as payment.
I'm thinking of AbeloHost, Virtual System, Flaunt7, they are located in countries that are known to be tax havens and don't let any agency gain access to your information, not even Interpol.
There are others that claim to protect their customers privacy like Hostinger, HostGator, ScalaHosting, DreamHost, Namecheap but since you still need to pay with your card I don't think these are truly anonymous.
You're not missing anything. The problem is no one is being honest with these women. It's hard to say "look we're not going to investigate this and nobody will because it was a suicide and you have to come to terms with that and begin healing." It's easier to say "out of my department." People are giving them the runaround cuz it's easier and it's not their problem. That's at the root of a lot of this. You see even in the Daily podcast they admitted that getting Marquis or Serge would be near impossible given the fact that they didn't even have ANY interaction with the people who killed themselves. They didn't talk to them, they personally didn't give any advice on methods, they didn't encourage anyone to kill themselves, etc. So unless I'm missing something about the whole situation which might be possible, linking them to the cause of their deaths is not possible. Sure they hosted this site and did their administrative duties, but besides that bottom line is this site just gives information. Information which can be found across the entire web btw and yes there's things on here that's only found on here but what people do with that information is on them. I mean seriously how can Interpol tie any suicide to them personally? Oh wait they consider it murder my bad. I didn't know that when someone kills themselves now that's it's considered murder because you got the information from somewhere. Like wtf.
Interpol is just making the perfunctory statements required when a major international newspaper and group of grieving mothers says "Do something!!" They're not even law enforcement, just a coordinating bureaucratic body. You're not missing anything. The problem is no one is being honest with these women. Especially if we're going to go down this rabbit hole of going after websites that 'causes' suicides. Why not go after Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, or any other social media platform where there's been someone who used the site before killing themselves? And sure this site might give information on how to do it but unlike here there sure as shit isn't no online bullying or people who tell you to go kill yourself if you say you're suicidal especially if you're on those god forsaken social media sites. They talk and lie so much fucking shit about how this site is full of sadists encouraging others to kill themselves but if you go on any other site full of so called normal people they'll tell you shit that sounds like encouraging. You're not missing anything. Kara Swisher basically said as much, about Facebook and the video game comparison. Without saying it. They sounded so hysterical and defensive and no one else was catching the feels including Swisher and that doctor they had on. And even the mom. She said what about the mental health system.Especially if we're going to go down this rabbit hole of going after websites that 'causes' suicides.
