  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

I have a few online friends I consider to be close friends. One of my biggest fears I have about ctb is them not being informed about what happened, and worrying that something did happen but maybe not being able to confirm. Additionally if the time comes for me to leave, there's so much I would want to tell them, and it breaks my heart to think about not being able to do that.

I have a few ideas on how to ensure they will hear from me posthumously but of course nothing is foolproof, and there's always the questions of:
  • timing (they should hear from me asap)
  • misfires (either failing to ctb and not being able to stop whatever process I've set in motion, or somehow fucking it up so badly they actually receive things before I even attempt)
  • reliability
plus, then there's the rare chance that I kick the bucket without even having to try... at my age that's really unlikely and something I shouldn't worry about, but still. for that scenario, I'd have to have some sort of dead man's switch.

here's what options I've considered:
  • paper trail: keep a note / notes somewhere out of sight, but easily found and recognized when someone goes through your belongings. this would include the contact info of your friends and instructions on how to deliver things. this could work for an unplanned death, and for ctb you could leave a note pointing to the paper trail to speed things up. timing and reliability really depend on how quickly it's discovered and followed up on, if at all. misfires can happen if you leave a note, otherwise if your privacy is respected while you're still around this should not be an issue.

  • delayed emails / messages: only an option in the case of ctb. timing wise this is very consistent. misfires can happen more easily. reliability should be good, as long as your method of delivery is chosen wisely.

  • delayed emails / messages + dead man's switch: mainly used to cover accidental death. similar to the above, but the idea is some service checks in with you via email / app / some other method, and if it doesn't hear from you within some predetermined time, it assumes you're gone and sends whatever you had prepared. timing depends on the check in interval, if it only checks in once a month then there's likely to be a 1 to 2 month delay between passing and delivery. misfires can happen if for any reason you miss the check in window, so while narrow window improve timing, they also greatly increase the odds of a misfire. reliability depends on the service - I don't actually know if this type of service currently exists, so this may have to be a DIY set up, in which case you need extensive technical expertise and reliability is directly dependent on your skill.

so for those of you who wish to let their loved ones hear from them after ctb, what are your thoughts on this? do you have any other ideas or suggestions?

I would choose the delayed messages, I think it's the best choice.

You could always visit them as a ghost and tell them about your reasons personally. That is if they're not gonna be scared shitless.

I am doing it writing on paper. I will leave the notes on my table with a note to who find me to call the numbers I wrote in.
