Let's say we're living in a world where you just have free access to resources and you could build your "ideal living space", what would it look like?

I personally would love a big wooden house by a forest, with enough rooms to give other people shelter (and space for themselves) too when they need it, and space to have a recording studio and an attic to work in.
I like living in a community and having shared spaces, taking responsibility of each other and the house we live in... i like the "actually building shit" type of anarchism.

I hate that we live in a world that's so unjust and cruel, where housing is a privilege that's sold to us, but i've also seen exactly this kind of community before, and i think i've just completely derailed what started as an innocent question (but it's a good conversation starter, isn't it?)

So.. what would your ideal house look like?

Reinforced concrete with thick smooth walls, ceilings and floors. Purely practical, storm proof, earthquake proof, private and secure.

Large cabin close to the woods, far from civilization but near enough to get things like groceries and shit. Mostly one big room except for many individual bedrooms and some bathrooms. Of course, with electricity, piped water and internet.

Mama's cabin would accept all visitors, for as long as they want. One of the bedrooms would be a large one, with a king sized bed, and many toys for...special occasions.

I'd probably have above ground and underground sections, maybe fire sprinklers, evaporative cooler (and reverse cycle unit for overly hot or overly cold days).
1 bedroom, some storage, and similar.
Probably a Jacuzzi too.

Ohh. I'm not really interested in a big house or anything. I'd love to have a casual mid sized home or maybe a cabin near like a forest and lake. Just want to be surrounded by nature just for me and my dogs.
Maybe not too far from civilization, perhaps near a small town so I can get food and whatnot. Still have basic utilities and access to internet.

I really want one of those window sills but where there's a space you can sit at the window? It'd be a nice spot to read at

My ideal home would be solidly built out of stone and/or concrete next to ocean waves. I want to open my windows and smell the salt air and be lulled to sleep by the crashing waves. I want to see the sun, moon and stars over the ocean without leaving my home and watch the storm clouds roll in over the ocean too. I'd have a decent telescope to see the passing ships.

I want to walk outside and have my feet in the sand within seconds and I also want a small heated pool. My house would have a couple of soundproofed rooms, one with a soundbooth for recording vocal music and a separate soundproofed theater.

It would be able to withstand tornadoes and hurricanes and have roll down shutters to protect my windows and doors. It would have 4 or 5 bedrooms and would be 3 stories, the first floor would primarily be a garage, rec room, entrances and exits, and storage areas and serve as a giant pass through if a flood or hurricane struck (hopefully water wouldn't exceed the 1st floor level) the water would flow through the first floor leaving the structure pretty much intact.

It would have hvac and generators (primary & backup) on a soundproofed, protected & secured area on the roof. Yeah, I've been through 3 hurricanes of note, really more, so I'm very into this stuff and if money were no object my house would be the safest for miles around. Still want protection and my creature comforts if I am forced to experience that again (and for daily life).

Above all, it would be mine until I die at which point I would hopefully have it paid off to give to another deserving person absolutely free and clear to enjoy.

A 27 meters underground, 2 meter concrete bunker with crazy good ventilation and crazy good air conditioning. Must also have access to electricity and internet; some space for a gym; a bathroom; an above ground water tank; a septic tank 10 meters below the bunker area that have volume to contain 100 years of shit. Ultimate privacy and security.

I'd like to have a wooden block house in the forest near a river. Size should be 40-50m².
Completely isolated against heat and cold. in the river I would have some kind of high efficience wheel for creating energy.
And I'd like to have porch with some torches.
The extra special feature would be a secret garage under the forest floor. It should have enough space for some friends cars when they would have a vist.
Under the house I would have some kind of small partybunker to have fun or hear music as loud as I like and it would no one disturb. There would be a passage to the garage.

The interieur would be made with much teak wood - colonial style. And the wall paint for the living room would be a dark green. Everything with indirect lightning. You know it should be like an old bar you don't wanna leave.

I don't wanna have a villa or house with many squaremetres. That wouldn't give me a good feeling and I would have thought that it's just wasted for me. No, I want an comfy small little diamond that gives me safety and coziness.

Oh and it would be near enough when the next neighbour is located 500 meteres away from me ;).

My 200 Minecraft houses have taught me I can not settle on a style 😅

IRL though, I would want something made from concrete/brick/stone and probably half underground for temperature stability and weather protection, also privacy. I saw this video recently and thought this house was pretty cool:

I always thought the house from the movie Parasite was perfect for me. Not only the design, but the materials and trees too. Minus the silly teepee in the yard of course. Kids. Who needs 'em.

I'm fascinated by Brutalist architecture but also love nature. Something like Frank Lloyd Wright's 'Fallingwater' would be amazing. Lots of glass and beautiful views. Preferably with friendly robots to do all the housework and cooking.
