Discussion If someone you knew threatened to kill themselves if you killed yourself, would you still do it?

Its something I'm curious about, since it seems like a pretty strong way to convince someone not to hurt themselves, I know If someone I knew well threatened that to me I probably wouldn't be able to go through with anything

I don't think that would change my decision at all, because my suffering is mine and mine alone, independent of what happens with others. I am not staying (or leaving) because of others, but based on my own personal circumstances...

I would still set things up but I would chicken out just before I pulled the trigger or wrapped the noose around my neck

I've not had the greatest mental health for a while, and I quite recently had a very good friend decide to part ways, that's given me enough of a reason to start talking on here, Im not sure I ever plan to CTB but I certainly think about it, maybe I would if stuff was more accessible where I live

Well, SN seems like the best option possible, and its not really sold here at all, guns are a hassle to get, and I'm not really sure about other options, hanging could work I suppose

Yes. It is their choice to kill themselves, not mine. I out thus right up there with the "stat alive just for me" argument and think it is incredibly manipulative and unfair.

Depends on who it is if its my dad or sisters then i wouldnt which is just sad but if its a friend i guess i would still do it

Probably wait for them and over the years get a bit detached, time does that for you, perhaps even in 6 months to an year people can nearly forget your existence. After that much time i feel like it should be safe to do that

I think I would still do it. I would feel so, so guilty, but I'd probably convince myself that it's an empty threat. That they're only saying it because they're scared and want to convince me otherwise, y'know?

I've also decided that, in my suicide notes, I'll ask the people I love to try to push through for me. All I can do is hope that would be enough to get them through the roughest patches.
