I've never been good at anything. Not enough to be remembered anyway. There's always someone better. Someone who knows where they're heading while I'm still standing at the same place. When people ask me what do I want to do for my future, I tell them that I'm figuring things out. I have been figuring things out for too long..
I keep thinking about my younger self. I should've studied harder.. I shouldn't have gotten that tattoo.. I should've been more disciplined, more ambitious, more something.. I should've done this and that..
I don't know what I want from life. I say things like "I'm taking it one day at a time" because that's what people say when they don't have answers. The truth is I have never known what kind of future I wanted. Everyone else is building something and I'm just trying not to lose what little I have.
It's tiring to constantly become the person everyone tells you that you can be, especially it's coming from your own family.
"We have spent so much money for your education, you should've worked somewhere better. At least be like your sibling"
"You could've gotten a better boyfriend"
"Look at XX's daughter, she went abroad on a full-ride scholarship"
"Look at YY, she got married with a rich foreigner and living abroad"
So on and so forth… Every fucking damn day.
My parents keep telling me that I'm an investment. I keep score of every meal they paid for, every opportunity I wasted, every disappointment I have become. The numbers never stop growing.
When people ask me why I don't cut them off, I don't know what to tell them. I can't do it simply because I love them.
I have failed to fulfill my duty as a daughter. I can't do this anymore.
