  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

I am insane and mentally ill so if that was solved I would have been an entirely other person than what I am. But those aren't things that can be solved, they are integral to me, there is no sane or healthy me. Materially I am doing okay and I am thankful for that to some extent, but many dimensions of what someone sane would take for granted are out of reach no matter the material circumstances.

If I had all my problems solved, why would I want to CTB? My problems are why I need to CTB. We all know, though, or at least should know, that many problems cannot be solved, no matter what some idealists or dreamers believe.

What's the point of it all? Eat sleep work repeat for the rest of your life. It's just not worth the effort.

maybe it would be pushed back for a while, would future problems still be able to happen? i think my answer would depend on whether or not new unbearable problems arise in the near future or not.

My only problem (and the reason for me planning to CTB) is that I wasn't born female, so if time was able to be reset and I was born female, no, I would not want to CTB (at least for that reason).
same but the other way around; if I was born a male, a lot of my problems would be gone.

Of course not. If I was a different person I wouldn't be thinking the same way

If I could cure my mental disorder this way, then I think there's a strong chance I wouldn't want to ctb. I feel like I might actually enjoy parts of life without it.

No, but these problems aren't the solvable type. It'd require a rewrite of the universe, which just seems a bit beyond the scope of normal problem-solving magic.

I think I act this way because of damage caused by trauma as a child.

I too have a pretty good life all things considered. A family and friends who love and look up to me. But the wiring in my brain to look for the exit can never be undone.

I'm looking, with no particular date in mind, for possible methods of cancelling a subscription I never requested 😆 I think the methods that are used in most countries to prevent people from unsubscribing are extreme and shouldn't be legal at all, and the fact that the unsubscribing process can be literally painful is a serious design flaw. The customer service is terrible to be honest. But if the following season of said subscription service will look pleasant and interesting, I'm happy to hang around a bit, I guess. I am however aware, that final seasons usually suck, so I would prefer to unsubscribe before experiencing that sort of stuff.

I think you've touched on what exactly sets people apart on here. Some want to CTB because their life has been damaged or hurt beyond their control, and others want to CTB because they can never find any reasonable or meaningful path forward no matter what in their life gets fixed, or just have no value for life in any way at all.

I definitely wouldn't. If my step-brother didn't physically abuse me all the time, if my parents were nicer to me and to each other, if I lived on my own with a quiet job that isn't stressful so I could fund my hobbies that make my life actually happy and enjoyable... If I weren't mute and incapable of having children, maybe I could even find a partner. I don't really want children at all. But... if that's what it takes for someone to actually want to be with me...

Even if all my problems had been solved. I don't believe even all of that would satiate my belief that life just isn't worth living. When the bd hits me at the hardest I feel it worst of course, but even when I have a sense of happiness and belonging, I still feel as if there's no point to it all.

I'm here because I'm trying to learn as much for my friend who is in the dire situation. In his case, he very much would not want to ctb if his problems were gone. It's his problems, which may very well be unsolvable due to some extremely complex and unfortunate medical conditions, that make his life truly miserable.

Absolutely. Life is worthless. For as long as we remain alive, we must contend with a very broad array of future harms which may arise in the future.

Even if I won the lottery, it would only protract my CTB date until I could put together a working group of lawyers and consultancy firms to do due diligence on the most judicious disposition of my assets to fund research in neuroscience and humanitarian causes.

Of course, I take a million or two out of the Powerball lottery jackpot the splurge on myself but no more than that. The rest goes to funding for research in neuroscience and then I pull the plug after my accounts are zeroed out.

I answered no because my suffering caused my personality to shift greatly and it's now sticking to me it's hard not to think otherwise. But maybe if my problems were all solved then it would be easier to make the change.

Yes and no. Although the desire to ctb would decrease a lot. I would still suffer from ptsd, nightmares and stuff like that but at least I would have something that gives me hope.

Depends on for how long they would be solved.
