  • Hey Guest,

    Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

    This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

    In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

I thought about scheduling an email to a few people and ask them to relay a few things to others.

Others have suggested sending delayed emails but have the notes as attachments- eg a Word document. It's quite likely email providers scan emails for keywords like 'suicide.'

You can leave a hand written note with a link to something like a dropbox folder. The link could be a QR code printed on a piece of paper. Just remember to provide any security/log in details and remove anything you don't want seen from your dropbox beforehand. This way your file is safe and backed up and your loves ones can download, save and share it as they see fit. It also avoids the possibility of sending timed emails and then backing out of catching the bus but being unable to stop the emails being delivered.

I think a note written and saved as a pdf is probably the most user friendly way because most people have a pdf viewer and can easily get/install one for free if they need to. It's a commonly used and shared format.

If you wished, you could write specific notes for specific people and label them accordingly in separate file or folders in the drobbox account. Law enforcement would almost certainly want to read them so keep that in mind when writing them. Don't want to get anyone living in trouble. But as long as they can see it's a clear case of suicide they should honour your wishes and give them to the people they're addressed to. It may be worth checking that's the case in your country though. Can't see why it wouldn't be but some legal systems are quite surprising.

There are quite a few apps for this located in the app store on most androids.

Personally, I'd not try scheduling a WhatsApp message since there is no native feature like that in the app and hence there is a good chance that the message could be removed/skipped by the 3rd party app/service.

So, I'd recommend using a scheduled email for backup.

me too, Whatsapp said officially that it's gonna put a lot of efforts into fighting third-party non-official apps, including by banning the users of those apps.

@OP

If, for some reason, you can't schedule an email then you may try scheduling a SMS via some web service. You can send a link to uploaded stuff (notes, video/audio message etc) via that sms.

The reason I'm not recommending scheduling WhatsApp is because that option is, as far as I know, dependent on your mobile still being on, having internet access and praying that your mobile operating system doesn't kill the background process of that 3rd party app.

Whereas scheduling an email or a sms via a web service doesn't require anything other than typing your message and clicking on scheduling.
