It's just that everytime a wave hits this forum, people start to feel the need to restrain themselves and start to "behave" and conform more in order to not offend our detractor for fear of this forum disappearing. and I hate to see that.

this is not the first thread about wanting to die as a mean to hurt family. it's just that, usually, this kind a thread is met with understand and compassion. I used to make threads like this but I grew out of it because of the compassion I was met with on here.

people in this state of mind do not need lessons. or rather, this forum, as I know it, isn't a place for that. like you say, some of us are dealing with horrible things. I remember writing a thread like that talking about incest, my father and the silence of my mother and wanting to die to punish my mother's silence.

If I was met with these kind of reply, I'd have killed myself honestly. There are so many other places to receive lessons. Please, let this place be about understanding.

But if OP is dealing with the same serious stuff that I'm dealing with, then OP, I'm sorry you're met with these kind of replies.

Well, this op is specifically asking on what to do for a gesture, not to actually commit suicide. As such, your reply about full suspension hanging and SN is not relevant since those are two very deadly methods that are not suitable for a gesture anyway.

If the OP was merely talking about wanting to die as a result of family then there would be very different responses in this thread.

If OP's family is caring then there is no need for any suicidal gesture to convey suicidal intent. If OP truly does just need a break then it's possible to enter a psych ward without even having an actual "attempt". And it's clear on SS we're mostly occupied on how to cause the least amount of harm possible so it's no surprise why most people will not be in favor of this.

Every time there is a thread like this, people will say not to do it, since there is no point other than causing harm that could've otherwise been avoided.

Oh, come on... 90% of us who've been SS members longer than a week know which "methods" are completely harmless. People laugh at themselves for thinking they'd be lethal every single day.

@og. I'm genuinely sorry if your parents are lousy people who mistreat you, but making a suicide gesture is a bad idea & you'll accomplish nothing or you'll just make your situation worse. If you think that a stay in a psych ward will be a pleasant break from life (it usually isn't), check yourself into one voluntarily.

I don't think that suicidal gestures are a good idea, but why do you assume OP's family members are caring? If they were wonderful people, OP would probably be able to open up to them.

Call me crazy, but I think it's highly likely OP's parents aren't lovely, understanding folks. Not many humans want to "give their family a suicide gesture" (notice how that sounds a lot like giving someone the middle finger?) because their family members treat them with respect.
