freshman and sophomore year of high school, and every year before, i was so good at school. i was gifted and didn't even have to try to get all As. then around second semester sophomore year i started to struggle and by junior year of high school i was flunking. after i got help and went to a residential my grades have been better but not by much. i can put in a lot of effort but i can't concentrate, i fall behind in my work, and my grades are Cs no matter how hard I try. i know that's still passing hut the amount of effort i'm putting in compared to the results i'm getting out just destroy my self esteem. i want to drop out. but the school system i was raised in and my family of all college grads makes me feel like if i don't go to college i'm not going to be successful. i feel like a failure right now. i have a good entry level job that i'm working my way up in the ranks at but i have been conditioned to think that it's not a real career. i'm currently crying in a public bathroom over this

Its ok to cry. It helps you release tension.
Don't be hard on yourself. Not everyone is academic. Many many people have become successful business people, had wonderful careers, and also dropped out of school too.

True society makes students feel if they don't succeed in school they won't succeed in life. It's all phycology. A way of making students study. Putting pressure on many.

You have a job and are working your way up. Don't worry about whether you can make a career out if it yet. The important bit is gaining experience first. Stay at it. Doors may open to a career. But if not, there is nothing wrong with just having a good job and working your way up via different routes. It might not be as glamorous but it's what makes you happy and not what you think society expects of you, that is more important.

You are doing well. Do not be too hard on yourself.

Are you in the states? If you're in the states then there's no shame in forgoing college. College is so expensive that it can set you up for financial failure rather than the other way around. Trades need people more than white collar jobs and there are plenty of extremely well paying trades. You need a high school diploma no matter what. Cs get degrees, don't worry about acing everything. If things turn around you can start at community college, which in the states is the smarter way to do it anyway. Look at it one step at a time. Get the diploma and take a moment to breathe. Forget the family, they're irrelevant to your adult life. If you get your diploma and have an interest in a field, go for it. If not, don't and consider a different path.

Please take pride in rising up at your job. Any position is beneficial to success. If you do well and get your references then you're already in good standing. Just take it one step at a time.

"Careers" are a scam if you are young
The oil will most likely run out before long and when that happens what people think of as "careers" will be upended

Best thing for young person today is to try to get some high paying but maybe high stress job like oilfield worker and make a lot of money quick and then go straight into retirement (no children) .

i've always felt like a lot of people put way too much value and pressure on your level of education. but not everyone is meant to follow the path of going to school. and i mean there are plenty of people who don't go to college and are more than fine.

i'm not really the best at advice, but i'd say try doing what's best for you. like if college isn't your thing and stresses you out you shouldn't have to stay. ❤️
