Everyone on this site seems to think that survival instinct just kicks in straight away and you wake up. This didn't happen for me.

My memory of the experience is more hazy now as this happened in 2020 but I do remember putting the noose around my neck and then dropping myself so all my body weight was essentially pushing down on my neck with my feet touching the floor (I did this with a denim belt in my wardrobe)
I pretty much knocked out straight away but I do remember freaking out and coughing whilst using my hands to try to untie it from my neck but I didn't have control at this point - there was no way in hell I could've untied it after dropping myself.
After I passed out my mum came and checked on me a few minutes later (I'd guess about 3/4 minutes) and she untied the noose and called 999 (all whilst I was unconscious) CPR was done, ABC protocol etc. and I ended up in the ICU for 6 days on a ventilator in an induced coma.
I believe my GCS score was 6 and the doctors told my mum that I was asphyxiating and my neck had closed up (IV steroids was used to open my neck back up)
Overall I'm glad I was saved in time to not suffer any neurological damage as being in a vegetative state is no way to live.

Has anyone else survived partial hanging by being found in time? I can't be the only one who had no control/passed out after dropping myself.

I tried partial hanging with a belt and the buckle snapped after about 7 seconds. I could feel myself blacking out but because I was so intent on dying that moment, I pushed through the SI - maybe another 3 or 4 seconds and I might have pulled out.

I also have attempted a partial necktie hanging and it too snapped several seconds it. It was a choker which sucked rather than the placid carotid pressure exit I sought.

I have never attempted hanging as I am scared of it failing. It sounds like an awful way to leave this world, we all deserve the option of a peaceful and reliable way to exit at a time of our own choosing. Thank you for sharing your experience and I'm sorry for all the suffering that has brought you to this point. I wish you the best in whatever happens.

I've tried partial hanging multiple times with poor results (only got myself dizzy) although I believe my latest attempt was the closest to succeeding.

I've since developed a fear of hanging because the idea of wanting to back out but not being able to sounds horrifying to me. SN seems like a better way.

this is why, if my primary plan doesn't work, I plan to hang using one of these bridges that farmers use to access fields underneath train lines - full hang, no way to back out, whilst ODing on Oxy & Benzos just in case I fuck it up and don't pass out as quickly as I'd like - If I do it in the middle of the night, no one will be about at least till it gets light...

Wow you could've ended up way worse, brain damage or something. I'm glad you haven't.

When you tried to untie yourself, were you scared?

I'm planning to go with partial. Practiced a few times and I tend to lose consciousness quickly (10 seconds), but I'm afraid of SI

Scared isn't even the feeling, it's the feeling of struggling to breath whilst you can't even keep your body up and something progressively getting tighter and tighter around your neck all whilst not understanding what's going on (I've ligatured quite a few times prior to this with a weak tape measure that would snap and I remember the feeling of being confused whilst trying to stop it pretty well)

After this feeling though it's just lights out and nothing happens, in terms of you experiencing anything at least. It's hard to imagine but I think due to the amount of pain/lack of oxygen your body will simply not let you feel anything, hence why I'm unable to remember the feeling after it was untied and I was unconscious.

And thank you, I'm still not 100% but this attempt really changed my outlook on life. I'm trying to get back to that point where I have appreciation for the fact I made it out with essentially no long term physical consequences.
