Everyone on this site seems to think that survival instinct just kicks in straight away and you wake up. This didn't happen for me.
My memory of the experience is more hazy now as this happened in 2020 but I do remember putting the noose around my neck and then dropping myself so all my body weight was essentially pushing down on my neck with my feet touching the floor (I did this with a denim belt in my wardrobe)
I pretty much knocked out straight away but I do remember freaking out and coughing whilst using my hands to try to untie it from my neck but I didn't have control at this point - there was no way in hell I could've untied it after dropping myself.
After I passed out my mum came and checked on me a few minutes later (I'd guess about 3/4 minutes) and she untied the noose and called 999 (all whilst I was unconscious) CPR was done, ABC protocol etc. and I ended up in the ICU for 6 days on a ventilator in an induced coma.
I believe my GCS score was 6 and the doctors told my mum that I was asphyxiating and my neck had closed up (IV steroids was used to open my neck back up)
Overall I'm glad I was saved in time to not suffer any neurological damage as being in a vegetative state is no way to live.
Has anyone else survived partial hanging by being found in time? I can't be the only one who had no control/passed out after dropping myself.
