Venting I quit my Job!

It wasn't really a job per se. It was a voluntary thing, and the idea was that in 6 months, we'd get investors, and soon we'd have actual money coming in.

But last week, the boss was kinda distant. Then on thursday, he said he's taking a personal day off, and then on friday, he was distant again.

And mind you, at this point, I had been working without pay for 4 months.

On tuesday, he held a meeting for everyone, and basically did a super villain monologue saying if anyone doesn't like to keep working, they can either leave, or "keep playing mind games" or "stop fucking around and work". Like, there was a full minute of silence after he said that, until one lady said "I think we can all leave now".

There was a second meeting called, and he asked people their decision. Everyone said they'll stay. But things were weird after that.
It didn't feel like we were a team, you know?

Anyway, I sent in my resignation, and they took it well.

Honestly, it was supposed to be a 6 month project, and then we were to get paid. But with the way he talked, it seemed like it was gonna take ages.

I can't afford that at my age. JFL

This "boss"...has convinced people helping to make his endeavor into a business....convinced them to work for FREE.
Im not sure anyone can have leverage over you when you are working for free.
There must be some reason why everyone just didnt get up and leave. I guess its the hope of a future pay off must be in their minds.
But the problem is, this guy can keep dangling the carrot, a future one at that..... in front them for however long he wants.
In this time and age, no way would I work for free.....unless they offered some sort of stock or partial ownership.
