Idk how to start with this..

Ive been feeling off, empty more so to speak, and I feel like my medication isnt quite giving me that happy boost. Im taking my highest dosage of my anti-depressant (Effexor 150 mg).I just been numb all the time. Just an empty endless void. Its frustrating cuz I dunno of I'm putting enough work on myself to feel better. My moods are unpredictable.I try to exercise, eat well and so forth but I feel like is isnt enough. And my thought on death had came back.I really wanna self harm, sob and just rot away. And other feelings that I could go on forever about but would be stuck here all day.

My psychologist told me to like consider taking a mood stabilizer (Abilify) to give it an extra boost but im mostly worried about the side effects.

But mostly I wanna know of im complaining to much or maybe I should give it a shot

Well, it's worth a try, isn't it? If the side effects are a problem you can always adjust from there...

And who knows, maybe it'll help!

Pulling for you.

I'm on Effexor [150mg] and also take a mood-stabilizer [Seroquel]. Personally, I needed to be put onto the combo and not just one, it helped a whole lot more.

I have been on many medications so heres my personal experiences (I have some form of manic depression/BP. Keep this in mind)

Prozac is okay. It's a small boost that definitely does help, in higher doses it can be a good crutch for most people, however I kinda got used to it ans was as worse as before. Not good for severe symptoms imo

Abilify worked moderately for me, however it didn't my extreme episodes so I swapped off. It definitely did still a lot of my thoughts though.

Buspar was really strong and definitely did stabilize me. Keep in mind it has a high chance of weight gain. The only reason I swapped off is that it personally made me a bit more emotional I'm different ways though. I feel like I cried more— this may be skewed because around this time my symptoms worsened. I keep thinking about going back

Currently I'm on about ≈ 200 Lamotrigine. This stuff is a good balance imo. It doesn't make you entirely numb and you can still feel. It won't feel like anythings changed but I went cold turkey one and realized how much more fucked up I was off it.

One thing I will say: Be careful of the sleeping effects. For me personally it made me exhausted and ther every night's where I couldn't sleep at all or only had 4 hours of sleep. It differs for everyone.

You can have a sedative with it which I personally do on days I want to ensure I sleep and move your doses to the afternoon.

I take this with a small dose of Wellburtin– anti depressant that can help ADHD as well. I've only been on it for a few weeks but I think it does give a small additional boost to my current meds.

Very important: ^^ this medication may have sexual side effects on some. Can kill your sex drive if that matters to you

If Abilify works for you I would recommend the wellbutrin or Prozac. Hope it works out!

Everyone has given you some good advice, but i want too give my 2 cents also! As all medication effects everyone differently, psych meds also differ with the dosage as well.

Taking a mood stabilizer might be beneficial for you! i am not sure what your diagnosis are, but sometimes just an anti-depressant isn't enough. there isn't any shame in that! Think of it this way, your brain is sick. you're trying to find the right medications to help it. just like with a cold or the flu, you might need a few different meds to help with the symptoms. although this would last longer than a cold/flu, but you're still treating a sickness! don't ever feel bad for taking medication or multiple medications!

I have Bipolar 1,BPD, PTSD, and Severe anxiety. I currently take 187mg of Effexor XR, 200mg of Lamotrigine, 900mg of Gabapentin,75mg of Amitriptyline, I also take Topiramate for migraines but ive read that it can be given for bipolar as well.

I was on Seroquel, but gained 100lbs and it made me miserable from that. i did however, sleep for the most part like a baby!😅 Weight Gain is a huge issue for me, i thought in the beginning "okay i can handle a 10 or 15lb weight gain for feeling happier" but i was very surprised at how much and how quickly it happened. (about a year- year and a few months!)

I would bring up any concerns you may have regarding side effects of any meds they place you on. It doesn't matter how silly or small it is. You're the one that will be taking the medication, so you need to be aware and content with it!
