But I am kind of getting towards the point where I can't be bothered trying to source something and would consider stockpiling a load of painkillers. Would they do anything for the pain while you were dying?

Someone with more pharmaceutical knowledge should reply, but when I was in college a guy on my dorm floor od'd on Tylenol (consumed a complete bottle). His fever went over 109 degrees, he had hallucinations and was convulsing. Was not pretty. Until that happened, I would never had guessed that a drug used to treat fevers and pain would do that.

From what I've heard, there's a low chance of working and a whole lot of pain. For a long time.

I'm no expert to say the least and I don't know about pain meds but I've overdosed on loads of quetiapine and propranolol 3 times. It never hurt I just drifted off into a deep sleep and usually wake up 5-7 days after in intensive care.
I'd like to say if you don't get found it pills can kill you. but the last time I did it I was found about 12 hours after I took all the pills and I was still absolutely fine no organ damage and I was discharged from the hospital quite fast after I woke up. I think you'd need a few days to fully be dead from the pills that are around now.

Strongly advise against. There are very few to no OTC pain relievers you can actually OD on - modern-day regulations see to that.

How did you OD on quetiapine? I was prescribed 800mg of this shit and I read numerous OD reports, you have to take so much. The mechanism of action for this is very different from painkillers.

Yelp, I tried that method. Put a plastic garbage bag over my head, and waited to die.
Later pulled the bag off my head went to the bathroom took a leak fell backward into the tub through the plastic shower doors. Mom heard me and asked if I was ok, I said I was fine. She said I am calling an ambulance. I told her fine call the $&#^ ambulance! Then I got er...somewhat combative with them. Police called, I was feeling berserk rage at everyone and everything. Had nice interaction with three cops. Hand-to-hand training works well even when out is of one's mind. When I came too in the hospital I was hogtied to the bed. Furious, and could feel where I had been busted in the mouth. When my treatments were over they had decided to ship me to a mental place. I am both pleased and delighted to state I escaped! When trying to confine me, do not blink. The guy who had me blinked. It was funny as hell watching that ass running about looking for me. POOF! Like smoke, I took to the ozone.
Wound up walking 22 miles back home. Mom was relieved. the mental people called my family, friends, workplace,.........everyone laughed at them and told them to f off. Not a method Id recommend.

I just necked loads of pills. im on quetiapine XL slow release im not sure if this makes a difference but I took at least a months worth of 450mg and I'm not sure how much propranolol. The last time I did it I was in my bed. All I remember is taking the pills and falling asleep. my mum told me she found me in my hallway, apparently I was surrounded by sick and I'd pissed myself so it's not a very dignified way to go.

yeah, one of my alcoholic friends took like 3 strips of prescription strength co-codamol (30/500 iirc) and was in the hospital for like 2 weeks after getting resuscitated from choking on his vomit
he was put on morphine/ventilator and he said it's the worst experience of his life, absolutely horrible. basically, if you get saved or don't choke on your vomit you'll get really fucked up. doctor said he did a lot of irreversible long term kidney/pancreas/liver dmg
