  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

She is a friend with whom I have spoken a lot, and we like each other, so much so that we have told each other very personal things.
But I just told her about my CTB intentions and my pro-choice stance, and she just sent me a number for a suicide hotline.
Then the desire to continue the conversation left me.

Meh, I've done the same not long ago.

Never talk to normies about that, it's completely useless.

I'd rather take care of my SN and shut up.

I think for a lot of people it's a deer in the headlights response so they panic and spew out the typical phrases we're all used to hearing such as the easy to flash 1-800 number or the catch all phrase, "Your friends and family love you, don't jump they need you."

This is why I have not told anyone of my intentions, especially my therapist. It puts everyone on high alert about your mental state and plans.

Tip : if you want to talk about ctb to your friends, always say you'll do it in ten years.

You're less likely to be locked in an institution like that, and they won't take you seriously.

After my sister passed I spoke with a counsellor I have seen in the past. She knows a great deal about the past traumas which have encompassed my life. I told her I intended to CTB at some point this year, was packing up my house, had most of the meds. She responded to say she understood and would not tell anyone. She has not told anyone to this day. I spoke about it with her again and she said she was not going to tell anyone because I did not want her to. TBH I was pleasantly surprised by her reaction but she knows my life has been very hard and that there is only so much a person can tolerate.

This could be like overloading a circuit and tripping the breaker. It just might have been too much for her to process. Those hotline numbers seem to be more helpful to those that give them out.
Will you continue to communicate with her? If you do, let her bring this up. If she does not, she probably has no ability to handle it. Not really her fault.

What were you hoping the conversation to go like?
It's so funny how everyone is always like "please reach out to someone if you're feeling suicidal" and then whenever you do they just dismiss it ha. Beats getting locked up I guess.

Personally, I would never tell anyone I was suicidal. Other people would do everything to try and save me and not respect my decisions. People who are not suicidal themselves will never be able to comprehend what it is like. I imagine this conversation must have been frustrating. No hotline would ever be able to make me feel better.

I have said it repeatedly over the past year to my roommate (who is my ex). I think at this point he just doesn't believe me, which is fine. I don't want interference when the time does come. He is a really great person and probably the only reason I am still around anyway.

People just don't know how to react to such things. They either agree with you, or change the conversation to brush it off. Someone above said this about the hotline numbers:

I agree.

Then again, what if the roles were reversed? What if you were the one just going about your day and not posting in such forums as this, and someone hit you with that? I don't really know how I would react to be honest. It's a lot of weight to put on another person, I think she meant the best.

I even have prochoice friends outside of this forum so I tried to do the same

Telling someone you have any suicidal thoughts or have attempted is a lot like asking them for a hug while you are on fire.
