My mother wanted a bill from the hospital. I looked it up on the website, found a number and told her to ask for it. It was a fake number, and she almost paid a bill for it. But she still gave her SSN. I'm burning inside, how did I not see this shit? I just had to look at the damn website, and I ruined everything. I want to scream, I want to cut myself but it won't do any good, and I'm acting normal so as not to worry her. We're going to wait and see if anything happens, if an account is opened or some suspicious message is sent, so we can go to the police. I ruined everything.

Mistakes happen. Had you known the full consequences, you would've acted differently. Now, no need to worry too much about it. If you think that talking about this with your mum and apologizing may help, you could consider doing it. Maybe by telling her what happened, you and her can take preventive action. Unless you suspect she will be violent towards you.
