Discussion I have this fear that when I'm dead

I have this fear that when I'm dead I'll still be able to feel myself and how rotten my body is.. I can't imagine myself just not existing aka dead.. help put some sense into me!

once you're dead you will have no awareness nothing functions at all, once the brain stops functioning, there is no awareness or ability to experience anything, including feelings or thoughts you won't even know you are dead

You can always consider that there are people alive right now that can't feel their bodies. You can always look up how the body works or open an anatomy and physiology book to see what parts of you are responsible for sensations. Even if there was something like a spirit that remained, just to entertain your fear, it would be inhabiting a body without the ability to feel.

Obviously, we can't know for certain. Still, there was a time where all of us didn't exist and weren't aware of our bodies- because they hadn't been born yet. I tend to think consciousness requires a living body to register. So I lean towards awareness ending when we die. If we do happen to exist beyond though, it seems likely we won't be in the same format. A lot of bodies are destroyed- eg. cremated after dieing.

If you've ever seen a dead body, it's an odd experience. I've only seen my Grandma after death. But, it was odd to see someone so familiar with no one there anymore.

Ex mortician here , when you die you are gone .
Our brains can't process the idea completely of what it's like to not exist so that's probably why you're struggling to understand it. But if it helps just imagine what it was like before you existed that's exactly how it's going to be after . You have no presence in the past and when you die you no longer have one for the future.

When you pass away that part of you that was you is gone your consciousness and very being is gone and what is left is just your body.

I would say nobody knows what happens after death. Whether the awareness keeps going or not.

But I would say what you are scared of likely won't happen. You won't feel yourself yourself, because your nerve cells will stop working and your brain that processes your senses too. I would say either way you won't exist at all, or you will go somewhere entirely else.
