  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

Why're we still here, just to suffer?

People are quick to lay blame but don't offer suitable options.

Many different reasons ppl wanna die but if you ain't experiencing the thing how can you claim to understand it?

Many like to assume situations or look at it from their own perspective.

Then you have the fear of being the fish that is out of the shoal.
Now extend that analogy to someone's entire life experience and it gets much harder to emphatise if you have never shared the same burdens. I noticed that people vilifying this forum have drastically different life experiences than mine that we may as well be a different species. They just existed, reached all of life's milestones and will take credit for the unfair and unearned advantages they were given (e.g., better genetics and environment). They could never comprehend and are completely ignorant of what it's like to exhaust all of their options only to find themselves back at square one; those who have put in the work but failed regardless.

And because you failed, people don't care about your story and will make assumptions based on the anecdotes of people who succeeded. They don't want to believe that luck can make or break a person and that continuous bad luck can render a person fucked beyond saving. Which is why they will assume that it was your fault and you didn't try hard enough.
Ex-prisoners/criminals running youth help groups to rehabilitate youth offenders have better results than any other group, who'd of thought.

I think it's quite clear why this site is criticized even if I don't agree with every individual critique. To feign a lack of understanding on why this site is vilified is disingenuous or reveals a true lack of understanding of people and the world we've created. Again, not saying all the vilification is valid, but come on...

This place is so vilified for some reason. I guess because we don't think everyone should have to suffer? Even then, that's not all this community is. This community has helped me sort through feelings.

I've talked about my breakup and received genuinely kind and positive feedback and words. But the articles and videos like to paint the negative of this site.

I'll never understand it, more than likely.
Terror Management Theory: human beings are busy trying to avoid thinking about their own death in any serious way, so they indulge in fantasy worldviews that promise life after death (yes, Abrahamic religions, I'm looking at you) and work hard to keep themselves distracted with all kinds of projects. Anything that raises death as a subject is a threat to their peace of mind. Suicide is the worst since it involves willfully volunteering for death.

Also, I came across a petition site where someone was demanding this site specifically be shut down. The person who posted the petition talked about having lost someone to suicide. I am sympathetic for their loss, right up to the point they want to make it into a rule than no one gets to talk about suicide because it will remind them of their loss.

And I still want to know what efforts they made to make things better for the life that was ended. Did they talk about it with that person? Did they even notice they were suffering? If human life is so precious, shouldn't we be doing more to ensure it is at least worth living for everyone? If you are not going to do that, at least you can stop blocking the exits.

You're correct. "Genocide" is not the precise word. The correct word is "omnicide."

The advocacy of wiping out the human race has been expressed here multiple times.

Inflammatory? Don't shoot me, I'm just the messenger...
(And no, I am omitting nothing; no nuance missing, those were direct sentiments by people with screen handles such as "misanthrope".)

"The human race just is not worth it. I will be happy when the world ends if nuclear annihilation comes or climate change ends up destroying the planet."

"i want to watch the human race burn in a pit if that counts XD"
"humanity was a mistake...nuclear holocaust/asteroid impact/the flood/global cooling/space alien initiated homo sapiens genocide NOW"

"You and me both. The world coming to an end is the achievement of world peace."

"maybe war, climate change, crime or something will take the burden of killing me from my hands."
"I wouldn't be opposed to something that just took the human race out."

"I want to destroy the world. No humans=no suffering/grief/evil/everything bad. Extinction of mankind would be a favour to humanity. Even those who want to live cant be mad or regret or grieve after they're dead."

And there's plenty more where all that came from...
I believe it's just an expression of misanthropy. Hyperbole. Have you ever been in or witnessed a fight where one person says they'll kill another? It's unlikely they mean it literally.

This is not about what people HERE think about it, but about what those outside who vilifiy think. And whether or not these misanthropes actually do it is not the point. The point IS the misantrophy does not help the site's image, and does NOT help when the site is vilified.

(And even if one couldn't wipe out the whole species by themselves, they might be tempted or encouraged to take out as many people as they could, like a Columbine shooter...we are dealing with a lot of hurt and mentally unstable people, here...)
And again, would a site not be vilified if they made genocidal statements towards a racial minority, religious group or sexual orientation? And it DOES happen.)

Even if those people couldn't logistically carry out genocide on their own? Would those playing devil's advocate here not vilify it themselves? So why would omnicidal misanthropy to be given a pass? (And people said that Hitler could never do what he wound up doing. And there are those even today who deny the Holocaust, or Stalin's genocidal acts...)

"It's over, Anakin; you've lost the moral high ground..."

("OMG, people vilify this site and hate us! All I said was that I hate the human race and want everyone to die along with me because they're shitty and a cancer on the face of this earth...why don't they love us?" What the !#%#, do people think such misanthropy would make others feel all warm and fuzzy towards this site? C'mon, people...feel how you're gonna feel, but own it, then, and don't act all shocked and surprised when it gets you vilified, after you've just vilified the entire human race and even life itself...)

Advocating for suicide for quality of life reasons, or out of trauma, etc, is one thing, as is hosting a website for those reasons. And sympathy flows easier towards victims. But allowing it to become a platform of misanthropy and murderous expressions?

I think it's villified for the same reason why this is the only social media I participate in -- even though I'm not currently suicidal. There's a tragic freedom here

People are constantly in fear: of not getting nutritious food, safe shelter, healthcare, resources to build a life worth living. People willing to die are a bit liberated from such fears. They get to talk about big matters of existence. Even "politics" and nation states seem small in comparison

That's what I think, at least

Regarding the "promortalists" who have a philosophy that life itself entails suffering, because in this universe life's a big kill fest... and thus it's moral to minimize suffering by Pushing the (Nonexistent) Red Button... well, I think it's an interesting philosophy even if I disagree. I'd like to hear people speak, and don't like these censoring commissars shutting people up. If they don't like REAL death, they can censor their rulers who make war or environmental destruction or misery

And I mean rulers in the literal sense: those who make social rules, and the means to enforce them
