My best friend told me on Thursday he is suicidal. He suffers really badly with paranoia and is convinced everybody is out to get him. He's even terrified to stay in his flat because he believes his flat is being watched. I left him on Thursday and had no contact on Friday. I called him on Saturday morning and his phone has been switched off, which is unusual for him. My other friend ended up calling emergency services for a welfare check. Ambulance/fire crew came out and let themselves into his flat and he wasn't there. The people who live in his apartment block also haven't seen him. His phone is still switched off. We were supposed to be staying somewhere tonight as a little breather from him being in his flat. I booked that for him on Thursday.

What should I do next? I'm absolutely beside myself with worry. Can't stop crying. He only has his mum and I don't have her contact details and I have no idea where she even lives. I feel so helpless. It's making my suicidal thoughts return. I love him so much.

You can probably find his mom through osint if you know his surname, the city where he lives, etc. Do you think this is something you could do?

It pretty much just means searching the internet in the right way
You can search of his name or surname in double quotes to see all websites where his name appears, you can search facebook for people with his surname, look through his social media friends to see if he's friends with his mom or some other relative that is friends with his mom, etc.

I so wish I could, but he has zero digital footprint. His paranoia doesn't let him use the internet in any way.

Do you know his surname? His family members might have created a bit of footprint for him

I do. He only has his 81-year-old mum who lives here. Absolutely nobody else.

Literally can't stop crying as I'm typing this.

I'm really sorry you're going through this đź«‚
Are you sure there's nobody else? No aunts/uncles/cousins?

Nope. Absolutely nobody. He doesn't really have many friends either, and the ones he does have have confirmed they haven't seen him at all.

Still nothing.

I'm really not coping. I cried the hardest I've ever cried in my life earlier.

Do you know if he's taking medication? I ask because some medications have inactive ingredients that can cause people to feel that way (fight or flight). I've had this, so I understand how awful it is. My hypersensitivity is to polyethylene glycol and it's in many Rx's and OTC medications. It's such a horrible feeling I'll prayer for your friend. I hope he doesn't hurt anyone else or himself during those periods.

Yup. He's on valium/diazepam, which he thinks may have contributed to things.

Guys...he's been found. He's not in a good way, but he's safe and he's currently staying with his mum. The mental health crisis team are seeing him tomorrow. I've just had a 50 minute phone call with him and it was an emotional one, but he actually sounded good, and he's finally acknowledged that he needs some serious help.

Instead of tears of sadness, I'm now crying tears of relief/happiness.

That doesn't contain polyethylene glycol so it wouldn't be the cause of his paranoia. I hope he's alright and that he find relief. Really, nothing is worse believing someone is after you except for having someone after you. It's a horrible state of fight or flight. Awful feeling. I really hope he gets better soon. Thanks for the update!
