I think that is a very fair stance to have! Personally, I think of death very differently than most people, which is the main reason I'm here. I'm grateful that this website has given me ideas for suicide that are much less traumatizing for the loved ones who would eventually find my body. I think euthanizing myself is a wonderful thing; it gives me, not fate, the power to end my own life when, where, and how I want. I'm in my early 20s, though, so an older person might feel differently about the subject of dying young than I would.

This site does not promote suicide any more than auto repair site promotes a breakdown. In fact both let the user investigate options and make the best choice.
Getting rid of either would not lessen suicides or breakdowns.

I feel very conflicted.

a place where people can talk openly about how they feel and what their plans are, get any info they might need, its a great thing to have. it gives people some freedom society simply does not allow. getting the actual chance to make important decisions about your own life, including ending it if needed, is good.

but at the same time, its also not. its almost disturbing. seeing people talk about planning to ctb so casually feels strange, since we are talking about something extremely tragic, a permanent decision, something that has and will traumatise many.

i want to ctb myself and i really appreciate how open you are allowed to be here and the information this website provides. it is extremely useful.
but at the same time, i feel like it is leading to many preventable tragedies, and that is obviously not a good thing.

either way, i'm not going to do anything about it even if i could. i will not take any freedom away from anyone, but i wouldnt feel comfortable contributing to anything either.

I feel the same, Extremely conflicted. I feel like a massive hypocrite. I'm not pro life at all costs nor am I an antinatalist. I believe people should have the right to choose to end their suffering but I find it tragic at the same time. I'm grateful for the information and support from some kind people on here. Then I'm so sad when I have a few time read people's goodbye posts. I have found so many people on here to be interesting, thoughtful and understanding. I feel I have to stop myself from saying the clichés of trying to help rather than just listen. The other thing that troubles me is that so many people are very young on here. Also people that have children i find that hard to reason with also. I feel weird and don't want to encourage anyone but at the same time I know how it feels to just want all the pain, stress, suffering and hardship to stop. I am so confused by myself to be frank. There is so much beauty to life but so much suffering too; who am i to say how much someone should endure. I get what you are saying and have thought the same things. It's a shame it all has to be so hard and traumatic . I agree that people should have freedom otherwise we are complete prisoners.

if no one were born, none of these tragedies would occur—no starvation, no murder, no exploitation.
Life is tragic because it guarantees suffering, forces people into an endless struggle for temporary relief, and ensures that every story ends in loss and decay. It creates problems that didn't need to exist in the first place. The fact that many of these problems could be prevented, but aren't, only adds to the tragedy. In the grand scheme, non-existence would mean no suffering, no tragedy—just peace.

I am completely in favor of the right to choose to end your own life, and I'll even go further than most people on this issue in that I don't think that a serious affliction - of any nature, be it physical, mental, social etc - should be a prerequisite for it. However, I do think that the decision can only be valid if taken with clear minded judgement, and that society has a duty to intervene when that is not the case. For that reason, the forum exists in a grey area for me as well. On one hand, it enables people to exercise what I feel is a legitimate right and provides a lot of harm reduction by distributing technical information that cannot be easily obtained. On the other hand, it's not uncommon to see those resources provided to people who appear to be either in extreme emotional distress or undergoing psychosis. Of couse, excluding psychosis(which is less common), to identify whether or not someone is clear minded entails a subjective judgement, and should a fundamental right be denied on that basis? The mainstream opinion seems to be that being suicidal means, by definition, that you are not in control of your mental faculties, and that's absurd to me. Wouldn't I be doing the same thing if I were in favor of gatekeeping resources from people who appear not to be clear minded on the basis of my own intuitions? It's a difficult subject, so for my part I'm selective of which parts of the forum I interact with, but ultimately remain suipportive of its existence.

That's a reassuring thing to think, but I think it's not biting the bullet. A lack of educational resources is an obvious impediment to people undertaking actions they otherwise wouldn't know how to do, and the same is true for the peer support provided here. To stick with your analogy of technical documentation, a software that is openly documented is modified and reverse engineered far more often than software which is undocumented or protected - not from a lack of will, but from a lack of resources. A lot of people would be making explosives if they could, and the deterrence to that is restricting access not just to the components, but also the know-how.

This is my safe place. Yeah, it sounds crazy, doesn't it?

We are many people who, for different reasons, have found ourselves here. And we can support and give advice to each other, discuss various topics, share our lives and problems. The real world excludes and silences people like us. I could feel more humanity here than outside in the "real world."

And also the most important thing. We all here have tried hard, being in this world is not easy for everyone, one chooses ctb as a last option. Sometimes the pain consumes us and takes us to the limit.

By having serious and reliable information, plus the different experiences here, at least our "departure" will be without running so many risks due to misinformation or common myths (generally what is seen in fiction).

After all, our life is the only thing we "own", each of us will decide what to do with it.
