Hey, so I was gonna post this in the main forum but I decided it didn't really fit that, so I'm posting here.

I self harm by scratching, but it's not doing much. I don't wanna CTB (yet) so could someone with experience help me to find ways of safely self harming? I don't want to leave lasting scars, but I need pain. Scratching worked for a while but I found the effect was not as good as it used to be.

Some ideas I had and why I don't like them:

Cutting: Scars. I do not want to have people finding out about this as it is helping me cope a lot.
Ice: I tried the ice method of freezing a spot on my arm, and it got discolored for a while. I got a burn from it. I dont want scars.
Rubber band smacking: So I dont know if you know this method but you basically put an elastic band on your arm and smack yourself with it. This is what most people recommend, but nothing feels as good as cutting or scratching.
Pencil: A sharp pencil kinda works, but this leaves a mark. This is what I currently use, but I am concerned about putting granite into my skin. (again dont wanna die)

If there is a method to somehow magically cut yourself without leaving a scar or something, PLEASE tell me.

Also, is there a safer way to cut than just taking apart an old pencil sharpener? I am concerned about infection.

Yeah of course, small cuts won't leave scars.

They will quickly get to his point where they will start to, but it's to late to stop now.

Very sad people responding to posts like this as if they're a joke, please remember why you and we all are here. Not saying to lose your sense of humour but I think the OP of a post should definitely steer the responses in a certain direction or being more or less respectful.

I bang my head often, the welts are hidden by my hair and it does calm my anxiety and anger down so I can focus on the real task at hand which is CTB. If anyone asked me why my head looked bruised, I just tell them I do recreational boxing. No harm no foul.

I do 2 things. I bite myself until I taste blood, but that leaves a mark as I tend to go for my hand. But I also cut, and I do that on my palm. You have so many natural lines in your palm that seeing a scar would be difficult for most people. And if they ask about a bandage a fake excuse for one on your hand is always easy as hell to come up with. Or you can do the bottom of your foot. It's the same there. I know some people that cut their inner thigh really close to their crotch. It's hard to find those marks, unless you're having sex with someone. After I draw blood though, I always pour salt into the open wound. It's strange I know, but it releases more for me.

Surely any damage to the bottom of your foot is gonna make walking painful? Even things like just blisters feel like hell, and I'm on a dermatillomania (compulsive skin picking) group and a lot of them complain about being unable to walk because of the damage they've done to their feet

Agreed, don't fuck with your feet!

OP I recommend eating very hot chilli peppers or chilli sauce. This will be very painful, will burn and make you sweat and cry, but also leave you with a big endorphin rush similar to an intense exercise session.

Rubbing crushed habanero pepper or hot sauce on your skin will hurt. (the real kind that has warning labels - made from habanero or ghost pepper extract). A tiny scratch or scrape with a little bit of pepper will be painful.

I cut my wrists with any sharp objects I can find near me, I mostly use needle or a blade. I don't care about scars because I find them beautiful (weird Ik), I am not worried about people finding it because I'm really good at covering them. As far as infection is concerned, that doesn't bother me. I'm going to ctb anyway.

For the sake of this question, you will only have a scar if you cut deeply, so don't cut deeply that won't leave a scar. When I first started self harming that's what I used to do. The other thing I do is starving myself (don't do this) or over eating (I don't recommend this). I also pinch myself when no sharp object is available near me. When nothing else is possible I listen to Yoko Ono

I hit myself with a hammer when I want to hide it. Just cover the bruises with clothes. You can really fuck yourself up like break parts on your body, so be careful... I love my hammer when I don't want to draw blood.

I don't think there's a way to do self harm "discreetly".
Ice will bring freezeburns.
Cutting will... I've seen the pics somebody attached up there and... yeah... unpleasant...
I've heard of some hipsters listening to high frequency noise. Not sure if that's some anti-millenial thing news made up. Either way, that'll fuck your ears up. Also, tinnitus.
Fucking up your feet will fuck up your feet, naturally.

I suppose the only thing I can think of that'll help in a meaningful way is to think of a long rotation so that you heal well enough in an affected area before you go at it again - e.g. mondays are for left arm, tuesdays for left leg, etc. Long rotation. REALLY long rotation.

Self harm is addictive, so even if you find a method that does not leave lasting and/or visible damage (ie. small cuts will fade away), you'll eventually find that isn't giving you the same effect anymore like what you've described and that will most likely result in you escalating to self-harming more harshly to feel the same effect again. I guess your best bet would be to have periods where you don't self-harm, but that takes a lot of self-control.

Instead of cutting yourself, how about giving yourself cavities? No one will see and they can hurt like hell. Eat wads of acidic taffy before bed and don't ever brush your teeth.
I'm not interested in self-harm, nor am I sure I understand the psychological effects behind it, but isn't one of the point to control your pain? If it is, cavities isn't a really good idea because pain from them, at least in my case, is randomly timed and not really reliable. But that is a conslusion i got only from my personal experience so if i'm wrong please correct me.
