Oh, my mistake... I was trying to illustrate how it will backfire if one rushes into it, not by default. I've personally rushed into a few and it scarred me in ways I can't relate to others with. And while it has happened to others like that too, it's not the kind of thing you want to... jive with friends over.

18, 19, and 20 are basically the same age. You'll fit in. And there are plenty of ways to meet people without partying. You can easily make friends in a context where the topic of dating just never comes up.
