When you don't know what to do and you're dealing with intense feelings, what do you treat yourself with to help cope?

My favourites are tea and coffee, very sweet with lots of milk. In coffee I go even further sometimes and have hazelnut coffee with Irish cream.

Other times I listen to hard house or hard trance music.

Other times I just sleep for 12 hours lol.

Idfk how I could ever get a job with the amount of "coping" I need to do, I feel guilty treating myself

I feel the same with the coping. It's the reason I have to die. I'm too much of a burden.

I'm sorry you feel that way. But if you feel like a burden, chances are you're doing everything you can to make it easy for people to be around you. I bet you're a nice person who understands what it's like to suffer and so want to minimise what other people experience like that out of compassion. You're a human being capable of good things. Your life as value. You have value. You can also have a purpose, being destined for greater things. So it's ok to treat yourself. If you feel guilty, try treating other people too, it can also help you feel good. Smile at strangers. Do some volunteering. Help elderly neighbours with bags. Anything like that will help you see that you can have real purpose and that you shouldn't feel guilty for little pleasures

I love tea as well! I think my favorite type of tea is actually oolong tea, especially oolong milk tea. I also have a sweet tooth so sometimes I love my tea really sweet, but lately I have been watching how much sugar I consume. I also tend to treat myself by eating Reese's or getting Wendy's.

Ooh my gf loves Reese's, it's a bit overpowering for me in anything other than small amounts though. I've never tried oolong tea, I must remember to, but my penchant is black or herbal teas. You'd be hard pressed to find a herbal tea I don't like

Thank you for this, I genuinely appreciate it a lot. I noticed also that I was a bit overreacting because I try to help out the people around me and my family a lot. Sometimes it's hard to see these things if you're really panicking, thanks for brining me down a bit ❤️

Getting cute clothes online. Sometimes just browsing is fun too, it helps me calm down

I'm glad you have those things to resort to! I treated myself to some nice cotton shirts this week which is unusual for me, I'm a sucker for comfort but that's probably an age thing 😂😅 I thought it spoil myself cos I've been putting up with t-shirts with holes for a while 😂 I was too attached to them for my own good

People overlook how much clothes can help your comfort and confidence right??
And yeah I get that, I only ever throw something out when it's too far gone.

So when you say you spend time browsing, what kinda stuff would you recommend? I've been looking other for interesting time sinks, trying to avoid Facebook and sometimes this site has quiet times

I mainly use reddit, especially for hobbies like sewing and sculpting

Yeah Reddit, I miss it. I was banned for glorifying suicide allegedly. All I did is basically said I think euthanasia should be a model that countries follow and they instapermabanned me for that, sigh. I've looked high and low for a replacement and nothing compares

Sounds corny, but healing my inner child.
Before, whenever I would made even the smallest mistake, I'd beat myself over it and all. Now, I'm being very soft, patient and gentle with myself.
I allow myself to splurge a bit on things that, okay, I admit it, aren't very necessary to own :ahhha:
I make myself my favourite foods and I take time to focus on myself. Just having some time to focus on my needs - it's usually something small, like putting on my headphones and opening my sketchbook to draw...but man, does it feel good. Being nice to yourself feels so good

Getting drunk and playing games and goofing around mindlessly on my DAW seems to work for me.

Recently I started collecting art toys. They're cute and fun. Having them around feels like a treat for my inner child. They've become a special interest and it's been fun to build my collection.

Other ways I treat myself is by providing accomodations. Sometimes sitting in a dark room in the quiet with noise cancelling headphones feels like a spa day.

Honestly, before you said you weren't sure if you could have a job with all the coping, I was going to say sometimes job stuff is my coping. Chocolate and another email can work the same on my brain. Just sn opportunity not to be here

Being somewhat older, and living in a colder climate, winters are horrible, I book a 3-week stint to Hawai'i and have something to look forward to. So, when it is -20F, I can hop on the plane and go to 80F and put on my shorts, t-shirt, sandals and sunglasses.

Just booked my winter holiday, and I am already looking forward to it.

Without something like this to look forward to, with 24/7 chronic pain, it would be so depressing, especially when the windchill hits -40F.
