Like Trump. So many people have openly mocked him, shown their disgust and disgrace of him. He must realise it's there. So- how does he and people like him shield themselves? Do they just tell themselves they are the 'good' person and anyone who criticizes them is 'bad' or misguided?

That they're a revolutionary maybe? And revolutionaries ruffle feathers but, it's all for the greater good? Do they simply surround themselves with 'yes men' and people who stroke their egos? Or, do they just live in some sort of narcissistic bubble that nothing can pop? Maybe they only care about money and, nothing else could ever matter.

I'm just kind of amazed at the confidence sometimes of someone who can withstand all that. Although, it's terrifying in someone with real power who seems oblivious or simply ignoring what so many people are saying.

What do you think though? Do you suppose they ever doubt themselves or their actions?

And how do the people around them stand having to suck up to them the whole time? They must be being dishonest sometimes. How do they live with doing that for personal gain? (Presumably.)

I've worked with people who were all over the boss. I mean- great if they inspire respect but this was unquestioning adulation. Even when they were in the wrong!

If they were at all kind or decent, then it would bother them... but then they might not experience as much of it... Most of them really do not care. Even if the comments land and sting sometimes, because they are still human, in the end they see us as ants and they just lord it over us in some way that makes them feel better.

Good question.

I think Trump, Putin and alike surround themselves with yes-men. People who compliment them out of fear.

I think these people have an extreme ego. Trump can say about himself that he was voted twice (when he says 3 times he knows he is lying to himself) by the American people to lead them into a better future. I think he fades out most of the heat he gets. If someone can just move on from almost getting assassinated then he will also be able to deal with shittalking about him by 2/3 of the country.

And afterall they are addicted to money, fame and power. And they have exactly that. This can compensate for a lot of hatred they receive.

I think they see themselves as superior to the plebs who they actually don't care about at all. Some of these psychopaths aren't even elected (ie that crazy German lady who oversee's the EU and is embroiled in some sort of scandal akin to insider trading involving covid vaccines and who seems to think she should be telling EU nations what they should do and when they should go to war) yet they still just don't care. A lot of people who climb the ladders and become leaders are the types who don't care when they do something wrong. It's never really their fault and even if they are forced to admit that it is they tell themselves they are still just somehow awesome and that anyone else would have made similar or worse mistakes. The humans around them are often complicit and they usually benefit from a halo effect (ie if they are males they are probably taller than average).
