I hope i tagged this appropriately.
Basically ive been cutting with my left hand for a while, since i have less control of it. The only con of it is that i have no control over how deep i go. I dont want my cut scars to be thin, but i dont want to go too deep too, just enough to satisfy me. As for now i didnt have an accident where i went too deep.
I use razor blades currently, so maybe thats the problem. Any ideas how to fix it? Anything?

And sorry for this being a self harm centered post, but i dont have any other place to ask but here.

I did cut when I was younger, but I always used my right hand. Sometimes it was deeper then intended, but that's the risk I took. Been a good while since I've done that.

Cutting with your dominant hand may give you more control over how deep you are cutting.

If possible being aware of how much pressure you are putting on the blade/pressing it to your skin.

Using something more dull/less sharp to cut may help too.

Where on your body can impact how deep you are cutting tho its been awhile and personally I can't really remember & I feel like it's dif for everyone.

How fast you move the blade can impact the depths too but again I feel like that's kinda hard to pinpoint.

That's all I can think of for now

maybe somehow scratching the blade will give u a guide as to how deep the blade is.
tho, there is still risk of infection, ensure you don't use anything unclean to reduce (but it doesn't eliminate) the risk.

I've always preferred a box cutter but you're right, a razor blade is thin and easy to slip too deep
How about a knife instead? Not as skinny and you have to press a lot harder for it to go anywhere, sometimes it's just satisfying to slash it across yourself a bunch of times without it even really going below the first layer of skin, scissors work for this as well if you hold them open and just use one blade
Larger blades like knives and scissors are also going to make wider marks horizontally than a razor, which mostly goes vertically

How about using a bluntish blade? Try really pressing it down so you get the feel of cutting but not actually doing much damage?

personally i found cutting on fatter parts of the body makes wounds more wider and scarring more bigger even with healing reduction. using a blunter object may help with satisfying the want for pain and also could deter from going too deep. careful around areas like near the inner elbow, upper arm and even near the ankle as the risk of knicking something like a vein or tendon is higher. multi swiping gives more control over how deep you are but it's very easy to spiral and go too far. just be careful, if you think you went too deep, stop and bandage it up
