• Hey Guest,

An update on the OFCOM situation: As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. OFCOM, the UK’s communications regulator, has singled out our community, demanding compliance with their Online Safety Act despite our minimal UK presence. This is a blatant overreach, and they have been sending letters pressuring us to comply with their censorship agenda.

Our platform is already blocked by many UK ISPs, yet they continue their attempts to stifle free speech. Standing up to this kind of regulatory overreach requires lots of resources to maintain our infrastructure and fight back against these unjust demands. If you value our community and want to support us during this time, we would greatly appreciate any and all donations.

Has anybody ever called a hotline and gotten the cops sent out as well? I feel like I'm the only one here

I've never even called a suicide hotline, but do you recall what you said that made them send the cops?

I didn't call them but I did text them, and I just remember giving the full truth and that was just enough for the cops to be called

I've called and text messages the suicide hotline a few times. I think it depends on what you say if they will come. Simply saying you want to comity suicide isn't enough for a knock on the door. But if you say you have a gun in your hand and plan to shoot yourself, or you have rope in the house and plan on hanging yourself then they definitely will come. The key is to remember if you tell them you have plan and have the resources at that time then they definitely will come. The goal of them is to keep you talking until you have calmed down and they feel you are safe to disconnect. Hope that helps.

To add to this there's also the factor of the person on the other end of the line. I'm sure they have situations where they have to call cops due to policy, but I've also heard stories of cops being called when they really shouldn't have been. You can't control that one or do much about it beyond trying to get a feel for them early on which- can be hard when you're in any kind of crisis headspace.

There really should be an anonymous option so it isn't possible for them to report you. The breach of trust is inherently traumatic.

That sounds horrible. No I know I cannot talk to anyone, even a hotline about this subject. I hope nothing bad happened from that experience. It sounds like a betrayal of trust.

They call it suicide PREVENTION hotline for a reason. Their upmost responsibility is to keep you alive. You literally can't say anything actively suicidal, where you're in an immediate threat of endangering yourself or others. It's the same mandated reporting that licensed therapists and social workers are required to do.

Weirdly enough, I recently told my psychiatrist about the methods I have, and despite reassuring and vocally stating that I'm not currently in danger since my mom is alive(not goin til she goes :P), I still got threatened with short term 5150 and confusingly got talked into IOP which is fucking miserable.

Years ago when my child was murdered I was having a really hard day and I called a hotline - I never said I was suicidal (at the time I wasn't I had a little boy who needed me). I told them I was very sad and that my child had died. While I was on the phone there was a knock on the door, there stood three cops who didnt ask to come in just pushed me aside and came in. One stayed with me while the other two started going into the other rooms of the house. This honestly pushed my anxiety over the edge. They started interrogating me. I began to cry and asked them to leave - they told me they were told I was suicidal. ANyway the assholes finally left. But I would NEVER call a hotline again. First off the people on the phone are fucking idiots and have no clue what you're going through and second they always call the cops.

My daughters called on me, but I've always dreamed and fantasized about CTB and made no secret I was miserable in this life (mostly due to my kids behavior). Well the police showed up and I was so exhausted with life and had no plan so I just said I'll go willingly if that's the only break I can get. I walked outside there were 4 police cars waiting for me!!! I could not believe it! You should never call the police on someone who you think is suicidal, it was embarrassing and I'll never mention suicide ever again! The experience was traumatizing and embarrassing, especially arriving to the hospital in a robe escorted by police. So now when they ask how I'm doing my response is always the same, "I'm alive!"

They do and will call the cops. Plenty of people have had this happen to them. It's best to avoid hotlines and or crisis text lines. They don't provide any help. They talk from a script and many times you are talking to a bot. I haven't found them helpful at all.

Hotlines are a waste of time.

Someone who wants to CTB really won't call one, people who want attention will, then the cops knock or someone gets sectioned. Lose-lose for both sides of the coin.
