I have no interests so I have no hobbies and I'm so depressed.
I told my boyfriend I have no friends therefor I don't play many video games like I want to or anything else. I basically am always on tiktok or youtube. He told me I ultimately just need more hobbies. I feel so passionless though that it actually just makes me want to revert to my period of anorexia, because that consumed my life enough.

Some things I don't want to do are cook, knit/crochet, garden, go to the gym, color, journal, collage, read, or learn an instrument... i also have limited places around me so although 'professional' pilates sounds intriguing, there's no way for me to attend. I live in a cold state too so walks aren't really a great option.

So any reccs of hobbies are welcomed. Even if you have a hobby I named off I'm still interested in how you like it.

I don't play many video games like I want to
To me one answer seems to be here: "I want to". Although I'm biased because I like video games a lot and that's the hobby I've done the most. You don't need other people to play video games. I don't know what kind of games you like, but from the top of my mind:
  • Skyrim
  • Cities Skylines
  • Hollow Knight
  • Minecraft
  • The Witcher III
  • theHunter: Call of the Wild
  • Don't Starve
  • Elden Ring
  • Frostpunk
  • The Long Dark
  • Sid Meier's Civilization Series
  • Stardew Valley
Those are games that are either single player or fully enjoyable playing solo. Of course they are heavily leaned towards fantasy and role playing, but I've played them all and I like them very much. They all provide you with countless hours of immersion. If you don't like those games, there ought to be others you like.

Also, have you thought about sharing a hobby with your boyfriend? would you and him like that? If you choose gaming, even if you play single player games, you could share experiences with him and even challenge each other.

While you look for a hobby, if you want something different, maybe you could try watching something you are not used to on YouTube, for example. You even could make another account to reset recommendations and see what happens.

I don't know if it's considered a hobby, but in the past I had a notebook where I write down phrases from songs I liked and then I continue 'the story' with something created by me.

Hobbies are so vast... you really need to sit down and think. What can you access? Can't fuel your gamedev hobby if you have no pc. but

Gardening
Learning a language
Writing
Drawing
Learning music
Editing
Working out
etc etc.

You need to figure out a bit of what you find fulfilling ig. Games are design to be fulfilling so maybe there's a start. What kind of games you like to play? No friends don't matter for a game like Final Fantasy.

Nier Replicant/Nier AUtomata are good (Automata is more accessible tho)
Xenoblade 3
Silent hill 2 (2001)
Castlevania Symphony of the Night

just random recs

Collecting is a wonderful hobby, although it takes money and space to store everything.

I like collecting mechanical pencils. I don't have too many right now.

Ask ChatGPT about this.
I truly believe that it's a perfect tool for those kinds of questions. No matter how depressed and dismissive you are, it'll keep spitting out ideas and perspectives, with unlimited patience. It can also elaborate on things, and help you solve the practical hurdles of getting started.

That's that i said many times. Still want to get some more but nothing has really grabbed me.

Hobbies: I paint minis and build models, sometimes getting in some games (rpg and tabletop minis). The hobby overall has a lot of elements so you can pick one and not the others. Mostly a solo thing but it does have the potential to find friends.

I like to just learn new things. I'll buy a textbook and start studying it on my own time. Learning is actually very satisfying if you're learning what you want and when you want.

uh it almost feels embarrassing admitting this, mostly because i'm new here and i don't know what the general attitude about things here sometimes

but i really like fanfic writing!

sometimes, it's like playing god sometimes, in a silly sort of way

in there, you can vent about heavy and suicidal stuff
and since a lot of fanfics are like """"low quality"""""
i felt that it was easier for me to forgive myself for mistakes
especially after schooling's mucked up me up and give me a crappy sense of perfectionism and stuff

i especially like isekai and fix-it

isekai because the idea of death = start of new adventure is completely self-indulgent
and fix-it because, it's like the original characters from a work you like are having a tough time
and when you're saving them
it almost feels like you're helping someone too? despite them not existing?

I knit and its nice because you learn different patterns and it becomes repititive then you forget when you dont do it for a long time then you can teach yourself again

I got into HTML and coding when I was starting to recover, getting more energy but had nothing to do so I picked that up randomly and it was a good idea. So maybe that will work for you. I started making a website on neocities, look up "personal web" or "indie web" - basically people making webpages about their life/interests/or just anything random. Might sound a bit pointless but the community around it is really sweet. Also it helped me kind of rediscover who I am, what I like even though I thought I had no personality since depression has rotten my brain so much but it turned out that I started 'building' my personality again. Also it definitely helped me use my brain a bit more which provoked me to think about anything other than suicide so yeah I'd say it's quite cool

Another thing is maybe making video games? I also tried this in the past and it seems like sth cool if you are interested in gaming in general. If you want to start with something simple there's RPGMaker, and if you feel like getting into something more complicated that involves more coding and stuff you could learn Unity.

I know these might seem challenging but idk I guess I'm trying to give you some things that are not that obvious. Actually it's not as hard as it seems if you take it slow. nowadays it's easier to learn things like that because there are manyyyyy beginner-level tutorials online

Also one thing about picking up new hobbies, remember that you don't need to be great at what you're doing to be doing it! Being an amateur in creative things is okay. Just putting this out there because I feel like many people back off from hobbies involving creating something because they feel like they are not good enough.

Darn, this reminded me I need a hobby 😅 some good, unque ideas are in there, sadly though, some of these are notfr everyone, for writing you gotta have some creativity and for codingyou need the patience, determination and all, especially when you can't progress at all in your projects

Learn a language. It's challenging, fun in a way, and it's productive.

I also like crafting, recently got into felt plushie crafting! It keeps me sane by repeated activities, doesn't need too much thinking, and can be done in autopilot. You can sell it or make stupid stuff like me (i just make tons of charactrr plushie from it). You need patience though, if its your first time trying to sew. I learnt hand sewing from this and it's..well, let's say it took some time. But it's fun once you get the hang out of it!

Cubing (like Rubik's cubes and stuff) ended up being a surprisingly fun and satisfying hobby for me! It's super low stakes, just a small investment to get a good speed cube and from there, it's fun to challenge yourself to get faster times. I find it gives you this nice feeling of progress without pressure. And if you ever get bored of the regular 3x3, there are bigger cubes like 4x4, 5x5, or even weirder variations to try. Worst case, it ends up as a cool little desk decoration. It's kind of meditative too once you get into it.

If you have a reasonable amount of money, you could consider skydiving. (It's not a cheap sport.) It looks both easy and dangerous. In fact it's not particularly dangerous, but it's not at all easy and there is a huge amount to learn, enough to retain your interest for years. It would get you out of your comfort zone, and perhaps give you a purpose in life. There are several formal certificates you could aim for.

One of the great things about any hobby is it lends itself to finding like minded people who can become friends, or at least someone to talk with about a common interest. This may not be a benefit for some people but if its something desireable it is an ice breaker.
