it's most likely anxiety. I felt similar when my SN arrived, although I did not open it.

Did you touch any? I've read before someone making the same remarks and how they felt they breathe it in somehow and then felt some of the symptoms (fast heart rate, queasy upset stomach, headache, etc). Now don't take my 100% word on this but if I remember I remember them saying they didn't choose to go to the hospital and ended up feeling better. BUT I don't know the timeframe. If you feel light headed and your about to faint and also keep feeling the other symptoms for the next 10-15 mins then I'd consider calling but it's up to you.

I remember reading how 1-5 grams can kill a person so if you actually feel you've accidentally poisoned yourself then you should seek medical assistance. If you call remember all you have to say is that you ACCIDENTALLY POISONED yourself and that the SN is used for CURING MEAT. I repeat do NOT mention anything about suicide unless you want to go to a psych ward.

Edit: how strong do you feel dizzy? How does it compare to your average anxiety if you have anxiety?

Yeah, i touched some. I felt my heart beating faster than normal as well. I had the strong urge to lay down and fall asleep but i tried to stay awake. Drank like a liter of water, one hour later aside from the dizziness i feel ok. Was kind of excited to die but my affairs are still not done. Strange experience.

After 10 minutes i felt slightly dizzy, after 15 minutes it was moderate with a lightheaded feeling and sleepiness. I don't have anxiety, so i don't know how they vary in comparison.

I think you should be alright then. But remember don't take my 100% word on this okay. And from now on I'd use thick and/or latex gloves, wear thick clothing that covers the skin, wear an extra mask and probably get some safety glasses whenever handling sn cause it is nothing to play with. And don't play with it unless you're intending to actually use it or to blood test it/ aquarium test it. I am kinda dumbfounded how in the fuck people who actually use sn for meat curing use it without accidentally poisoning themselves. Remember it's a poison so you got to treat it like a science experiment in a way. If you touch any remember to wash your hands with soap and then use hand sanitizer.

I think some homecooks use pink prague powder? I have no idea how the ones that use the pure food grade stuff don't.

Not totally sure on this, but I think SN is only fatal if ingested/inhaled, or if it comes into direct contact with your eyes, so you should be ok- definitely take the other commenter's advice about using safety gear though.

Yeah, i think i accidentally inhaled some and it got passed down to the trakea. I'm kind of clumsy. With regular touch it should be ok since the skin doesn't react with SN, only the blood.

How you feeling now? Any symptoms still?

This makes me wonder if it's safe to store it in place where there are many people around. I don't wanna cause even slight harm to others but I see no other way till I'm ready to go.

Isnt your sodium nitrite now converting to sodium nitrate since you opened your container?

i immediately put the large pack into an air tight container and put it in a closed space. i hope it's tight enough so even if some of them do convert into nitrate, the center of the pack is still nitrite. For the 25 gr that i put into a separate container, i closed it immediately. By the naked eye they still look the same. I'll buy another pack of SN just in case the blood test fails me though.

I feel perfectly fine now, i only touched very little of it so in larger doses idk how things could be. Just remember to drink a lot of water if you've come to contact with SN.

I don't think it's safe to store it in places where there are a lot of people around. Kids and sometimes adults can be curious and if they stumble upon it, they might think it's sugar or something. I hide mine in my room inside a locked dresser.

Just FYI, sodium nitrite is chemically stable and won't convert to sodium nitrate even if left open to air for years. It should ideally be stored at room temp in a sealed, labeled container out of reach from children of course.
