What the hell am I doing here?

I don't think anyone has posted about this yet, but this article is about a girl who chose to ctb by using helium. It seems that she was struggling with severe anxiety and depression relating to her academic journey and trying to secure an internship. It is very sad, but I thought I would post it here because I am surprised by the method. I don't see people talk about this method often and am interested in any thoughts, opinions, viewpoints, or experiences that anyone here may have on this story and the method involved.

I've seen a few people on this site talk about using helium. I haven't done much digging into the method, seems like a fairly peaceful way to go. Just possibly a bit difficult to get helium, at least in the states. At least it was, I'm not sure if it still is.

I can't stop reading the comments under that article. They are all so evil and devoid of empathy. Why does it seem like absolutely nobody understands or even cares unless they've also struggled?

I went to look at the comments. I agree that people are quick to judge someone's decision to ctb when they don't even know what it's like to live in that persons state of mind. Even someone who seems to "have it all" can struggle with suicidal thoughts and even go through with it. I do think she likely acted on impulse and may have been able to live longer if she had reached out for help, but in the end it was her decision and I hope her loved ones can understand the pain she was in and why she made that choice.

Yes, from what I have read about it, it seems like it is a fast and painless asphyxiation and she likely did not suffer at all. I'm not sure how she acquired the materials, but regardless, I hope she is now at peace.

Not difficult to get pure helium in the states. It never was. People just didn't realize where to find it, is all. Pure helium and nitrogen (which can be used instead of helium) can be purchased from welding supply stores and industrial gas suppliers.

I'm sure she acquired them easily, as they are not hard to find here.

... may have been able to live longer if she had reached out for help,
Gentle reminder that you do not know that she did not try this. Or maybe she could not because the resources were not available or she was far too afraid of judgment for reaching out, which is very often held belief in college students at prestigious universities.

You're right, I apologize if that sounded insensitive of me. I'm sure she likely did try to get help, maybe even countless times, and maybe she decided not to reach out before ending it all because she didn't have hope anymore. I also know that getting help doesn't always mean you will be able to fully recover. I think getting help often means learning to deal with the thoughts and urges, not to get rid of them completely..medication and therapy can only do so much. Sometimes ending it just feels more logical and appealing than continuing to live in pain.
