wanted to start a thread for all of the hedonists on here.

how has being hedonist benefit/ruined you?
what pros and cons have you experienced with it?
does it tie to your suicidal ideations?
do you think you were born with a hedonistic mind or nurtured into it?

or you could just vent about it, praise it, whatever the case maybe😁

First of all, are you referring to classic hedonism? Like sex, drugs, etc.? Or also to hedonism in buying things just for the sake of it?

I don't know if this makes sense to you, but my hedonism was going to every place I could in my country and adapting to the situations just to see what people are like, although this sometimes involved me in relationships.

A Former Hedonist Here

I used to consider myself a hedonist; I thought that pleasure was, in principle, the most important thing in life. This went on until I started suffering from depression and began to explore other philosophical concepts in greater depth. That's when I realized I was a nihilist.

But generally speaking, I haven't abandoned certain ideas of hedonism—for example, that pleasure is the most important thing. However, because of my nihilism, I believe that life as a whole is meaningless, and pleasure is meaningless. And I get less pleasure from life and other things now.

Do you think the depression stemmed from boredom of living a hedonistic life or did it come from something else therefore affecting your view of pleasure and the meaning of life as a whole? (If that question made any sense)

I definitely went the hedonism to depression/adhenoia to nihilism route just like you 🫡

I've started becoming a bit of a hedonist recently due to my suicidal ideation (since if I'm going to die, might as well have fun before then). It's sorta benefited me in the way that I'll go out for more walks, but the downside is probably not caring enough to get off social media/chatbot sites. I could probably have more fun off my phone, but I don't care enough to put it to the test 🤷‍♀️

I don't have much to contribute to this thread other then that statement, but I do hope more people add to this thread. It seems quite interesting

It's hard to say what caused it; I can't fully understand it myself.

Perhaps it was influenced by a variety of factors, such as: dissatisfaction with my own body and appearance, loneliness, setbacks, stress, a loss of interest in people, disappointment in people, and so on.

I've ruined even the most basic pleasures for myself, like eating. I definitely enjoy it, but then I feel guilty about it (due to an eating disorder).

Even masturbation has stopped being pleasurable; there is still pleasure, but much less than before. And this is connected to my view of romance and human relationships.
