Dwelling within darkness

Usually I get dreams where after some time, I often think that living within it feels way better than waking up to real life. The frequency of such good dreams have increased lately for me. Despite the changing surreal landscapes I go through, I just feel the quality of life in my dreams is superior to waking up to reality. Due that I encounter characters in the dreams to know them more as well to sometimes experience vivid dreams where I can manipulate everything around me, makes me want to stay in those utopic worlds...

Not really because they fade away quickly and are forgotten, most good dreams disappear almost immediately after waking up. I rarely get good dreams, I have terrible nightmares every night on top of insomnia, I dread going to sleep.

Yes completely. I've had this experience in my life. Not necessarily currently, as I am taking medications and I think they are affecting the vividness of my dreams, but without it, I would much rather live in my dreams than in real life. I have lucid dreaming so I can control my dreams and experience them like moments in real life. Sometimes its become so confusing that I can't distinguish from a memory that happened in a dream versus real life. But I Really miss those dreams, one of the many reasons why sometimes I want to quit medications.

I have nightmares most often and they're lucid. I can change things in them but they still suck haha. But I agree with @Sufi, fantasies is where it's at.

Ive been having quite a few lucid dreams lately. I think thats why Ive been sleeping so much to escape reality. They usually are good dreams. I can only count a few nightmares Ive ever had.

One time I had a sleep paralysis and I had this grey/dark figure over me with a body made of smoke. All I could see was the figure and pure darkness around. I could feel it pinning me down. Worse nightmare ever it felt like forever. I told my grandma about it and she said I needed to fix my issues with my mom lol. I regret asker her why she thinks that because she began to lecture me for 30 mins on religion

Sadly having PTSD makes both dreams and reality equally just as horrifying and scary.

Do you mean drems while you are sleeping or day-dreams to escape reality?

When I was a child I had often day-dreams and I think this was a good idea to cope with the hard reality. Sometimes I try it again, but it didn't work like it do when I was a child.

I think it is okay to have a nap from reality in this day-dreams. Maybe you will write them down like a wonderful hobby - you create your own world. Maybe you have a good "friend" in your dreams you want to take "with you" in your real life.

Actual sleeping. Although now that you mention it, I day dream/fantasize to some extent while Im awake but its more like short intrusive thoughts. Its just not as alleviating since Im still awake compared to being completely knocked out.

Watching movies is another good way for me to escape as I get so absorbed

Absolutely. I have a hyper imagination with vivid dreams during both night and day - it is so much more eventful than reality. I can go, do, and be whoever I want to be with no repercussions.

Lately I been on auto pilot - kinda just listening to the bear minimum of what people are asking of me to do. My body just blindly following while my mind is someplace else.

I was refering specifically about dreams while sleeping. Also I tend to daydream a lot as well.

Some of the dreams can even serve me as insipration to start a creative project, such as drawing/painting and writing short stories (just like you stated about creating 'new worlds and friends', is one of my favorite parts about dreaming).

Yes, definitely, but sometimes my nightmares are too much, like weird dreams of being arrested,of being in the army,of being employed in horrible jobs, of running from aliens,or just now being caught up in a Turkish-Greek war ,strange intense dreams each night---But always the same nightmare when I actually wake up

Most of my dreams are good, I dream about a life where things worked in my favor and I achieved what I hopelessly try to achieve in the real world. If I could dream forever that's what I would want.

oh god no, i have pretty much exclusively nightmares...i get shaken awake at least a few times a week by them. i have recurring zombie apocalypse dreams which aren't very fun. i have another recurring theme where i go to a party, everyone hates me for no good reason and my boyfriend cheats in front of me...i get more of an escape through film and tv.

I used to only get nightmares when I slept, now I'm always so tired I usually just pass out into a dreamless sleep. I've started dreaming again occasionnally, incomprehensible stuff, but I still wake up feeling like I'm on that dreamy cloud.

I think a lot of people with mental health issues prefer dreams to real life, since it's pretty similar to dissociating irl. When I was at my worst I used to sleep through the night and nap in the afternoon. It was a way for me to disconnect from reality and escape.

I used to get nightmares all the time and most of them were about my friends dying in otherworldly, creepy places but recently I've been able to lucid dream and it's made it my nightmares a lot better so maybe it's a bit better to live there than in real life but I'd still prefer living in my daydreams.

My sleep is dreamless like 90% of the time. When I do dream, it's usually not that different from the waking world—maybe someone shows up that I haven't seen or thought of in decades, or I'm doing something I don't normally do. Stuff like that. Overall, my dreams don't seem to be better or worse in any meaningful way.

I love being asleep wayyy more than being awake. I don't really have to work hard in my dreams, and I still enjoy them. It's also the only place where I can hang out with my favorite fictional characters and truly escape from reality.

Hey there! I noticed you are a Sonic fan (based on your icon) I am as well. Would love to be friends with you, but not sure where else I can reach you outside of this forum. Of course, if you don't want to be friends, that is fine as well.
As for your question, there definitely have been days where I wished to remain asleep due to finding the dream way more interesting than reality.

Yes and my dreams aren't usually even that nice! I just love the state of being not fully conscious. The moment I wake up, I start worrying.

I think everyone on the site thinks/feels that way. As soon as I realized I was happier/more at peace sleeping than being awake...I knew this world was no longer for me....
