The Odds Are Never In My favour

I was told to close my eyes, think of a traumatic memory and then describe the feeling in my body(numbness) and if it was growing or fading and replace it with a positive. Apparently, I had to think about it whenever I felt triggered and anxious. Guess what, it never worked for me. I don't know what it was, but like it didn't help in relieving or forgetting about anything.

Another technique was the deep breathing and counting backwards. That didn't work either, and I still felt as anxious as before.

The best one: I was told to role-play my abuser and imagine talking to him, Well that didn't work either and it actually made me more suicidal by triggering me.

Yet I am told these techniques are amazing and works wonders. I wish that was the case, and I feel like therapy has actually induced more trauma in me rather than alleviate my issues. For me atleast, I understand it might work for others and thats good.

It never did Jack for me either. I find it's all that happy fake crap that makes it seem that it could work when you can tell it's too much of a trigger. I would think those in the field would know better but it depends on who you have.

It never worked on me and yes it does cause more pain and nervousness. By merely having to think of it let alone having to attempt to confront an invisible person causes more issues. However, it must work on some somewhere. I've known many in the same boat as you and me where nothing helped.
