Discussion Has anyone tried or considered nitrogen method?

I heard it's one of the most painless ways to go but I haven't seen that many people actually go through with this method. In my case, it's basically impossible for a regular person like me to purchase large amount of nitrogen in my country so I'll probably never be able try it but I wonder if any of you ever tried or considered this method..
I really wish I could go with this method but too bad for me I guess

Originally, my plan was to use helium gas but because of the helium shortage, most tanks contain too much air to be an effective method to do the job. This is particularly true with tanks used for balloons. My plan B is to use nitrogen because pure nitrogen gas is easier to obtain in the US.

The problem with this method is the complicated setup. It takes quite a bit of time to acquire and assemble this method. The cost is another issue. Not only do you need the tank, but you need hoses, a regulator to measure the gas flow and the parts to assemble and attach the hoses to the tank and delivery system. All of this adds up quickly.

Speaking of, to deliver the gas, you will also need to build "exit bag" to deliver the gas to the lungs. The exit bag alone will take at least two hours to source the materials and build from scratch. Some people use a full face mask, as used by divers but that adds even more cost.

The problem here is it's not a guaranteed method of ending your life. Despite the time and cost involved, unless you are meticulous with building your setup, a myriad of things can go wrong.
One problem is, because the survival instinct can kick in and force you to remove the bag (or mask) as CO levels rise, thus making the whole setup pointless.

If you do gain access to the gas, you will need to be meticulous about your setup and your willingness to follow through. If you are determined to use this method, I suggest finding GAS MONKEY's megathread on the specifics of his setup in this forum. He not only lists all of the details and how to acquire and assemble it, but includes photos of the finished product.

I am surprised people go for complicated imert gas setups when a few tanks in a car can prove fatal (less than 5% o2 is fatal iirc... the raised air pressure will flush out some o2 as well).

Using five nitrogen tanks is pretty expensive though
I would choose carbon monoxide if I were to ctb in a car

Don't need all 5, only 3 leaked slowly... maybe 1 or 2?

Good idea, known flow rate is better than unknown flow rate. Maybe the tank has some estimate, idk.

So if one wants to CTB without minimal chance of error, the more complex protocols can be used.

I wouldn't attempt with inert gas other than through a flow valve and using an exit bag.

I only intend to have one attempt at CTB and make it work first time.

Mm yep, without flow rate known, one can waste too much nitro and pay excess... or one can use too little and need to rebuy with (possible) difficulty (if able to).

I'd probably overdo the nitro if that idea was my method, nightnight by kooz would be my insurance plan if I ever CTB.

9l at 137 bar gives 82 mins at 15 lpm

I'm happy to dial that up to 20 lpm for an hour.

The same 20 lpm would do nothing just being released into a car.

thanks for the calculations, and yep, it would be wayyy more efficient to have bag.... tho what about bag + car (so nitrogen is reused to lower the background O2 level)? Even if the bag is removed inadvertently, the closed car may boost the chance of CTB?

If you make the bag properly with a drawstring around your neck there'll be no inadvertent falling off.

There are some good heavy duty bags that wouldn't be crinkly like an oven bag.
