Help Has anyone taken zoloft /sertraline/?

So, that's my new med I will be taking from tommorrow. I want to ask if any of you has taken it and if it was useful. Also did it have any strange side effects? Thanks in advance for all the answers.

Hi! I was prescribed Zoloft a few years ago. Of all SSRI class of antidepressants it worked the best for me (I also tried Prozac, Paroxetium and Brintellix). It made me more stable in the morning, which is the hardest part of the day for me. Didn't notice any side effects, but really advice you to abstain from alcohol while you are taking Zoloft.

I take 200mg daily of Sertraline, it works for me as in it makes me feel numb to most things, but it absolutely killed my sex drive, so if you're sexually active that might be an issue for you.

Thank you for the answer. I wish it makes me feel numb to all my stress factors which fill my day, I am willing to sacrifice what little joy if any I get from doing the things I love. My sex drive is nonexistant when I am depressed which is most of time for the past year or so so I don't think this will be a problematic side effect for me.

All ssri/snri I've tried only caused adverse effects. SSRI indifference and killing dick, libido. Excessive yawning passes quickly.
Also taper off slowly, if having capsules you can open them and split the dosage, you dont want brain zaps or any other withdrawal symptoms. Good luck.

Meds are very hit or miss. The meds that work great for me might not work for you, and you may not get the same side effects that I do. You're the one who has to decide how long you want to stick it out for.

I'm on it right now. I asked them to raise my dosage but they declined. I feel more functional when I sort of feel numb. When I get used to it too much I start to think I'm okay and that I don't need it anymore. Then I stop taking it and everything spirals out of control again.

I have been on various SSRI meds for many years. I feel they helped me at the beginning, when I was having bad panic attacks. But now I learned now to cope with panic using CBT techniques so I don't need SSRI.

The problem is that I've been on them for such a long time, I get extreme side effects when I try to quit.

I made two attempts so far in the past two years. Both times I stuck it out a couple of months and then ended up taking Sertraline again because I could not function.

I am hoping this year is the year and that there's some truth to the saying third time is a charm.

It also gave me INSANE dreams. Insane. I would lie down to fall asleep, and I would immediately begin dreaming. The dreams were incredibly vivid, picturesque, and detailed. They were reminiscent of a fantasy sci-fi film. It sounds pleasant- and it was quite fascinating at first- but after a while, I began to struggle to even wake up in the mornings because the dreams practically enraptured my mind. I legitimately could not get out of bed to go to school in the morning sometimes. I'd be dreaming, my alarm would blare, I'd wake up briefly to shut it off, and then immediately fall back asleep. As soon my head hit the pillow again, whatever fantastical dream I'd been having minutes before would immediately pick back up right where it had left off before my alarm went off.

It was fucking weird. I eventually had to stop taking it

This sounds crazy. I actually hope the med will blunt my emotions, I think I need that in my current state of mind. The thing about your dreams does sound interesting at first - I usually don't remember my dreams and they are rarely realistic but I still have trouble getting out of bed in the morning when I dream. I heard my doctor today and she said I will start taking the sertraline on the next monday so I guess I will see what happens soon :D

I guess I could, but I am not willing to experiment with any other meds. I would rather take the known instead of the unknown. I have always really bad side effects from all the meds I have ever taken - even metoclopramid against nausea - so now my goal is to be completly free. Setraline is the last fortress to be conquered, and conquered it shall be.

Oh yeah, vivid dreams from Sertraline ... what a nightmare! I would wake it dazed and scared out of my mind. They disappeared now that I am on 25 mg. But when I was on 100 mg I was living a double life - my life and a crazy, weird one in my dreams.

did absolutely nothing for me took it for 6 months. However a dear friend of mine took it and it made him manic. He would get the craziest ideas and I had to stop him from doing stuff that would have gotten him/us in trouble several times.

For anyone who cares - I just took my first 25mg (as per my doctor prescription I will take 25mg daily for now). I kinda feel more relaxed in a way. The noise in my head is a bit less. Boy I hope this med helps me. Thank you again everyone for posting on this thread. You have been very helpful.

I found that it made me wolly in the head and loss of libido. It didn't help with my situational depression so I stopped it. I hear that it can help people with a biochemical imbalance in their brain. I'd say that if your depression isn't situational, try it and other medications and see if you can find one that works.

Depression that is caused by a life situation of yours rather than it inherently being a part of you

Since this website is generally a place people go when they are really struggling, you are more likely to hear negative things about Zoloft here. People who feel relief from Zoloft will likely spend less time here or not come here at all. I'd give it a try. It helps a lot of people.

hello everyone new to zoloft! (since this thread is 3 years old and still active i assume some people are still looking for information)

i take zoloft. note that it takes a while to kick in, but when it does, it really helps. in the meantime, don't give up. now you know it'll be better soon.

I feel like zoloft depends on the dosage mostly. 25-50mg did absolutely nothing for me. I take 100mg and it still feels as if 'something' is missing. Been about a year ish.

Though, like @unexplainedExplorer stated, it take time for the drug to saturate your blood enough and cement itself deep into your brain, so that it actually takes effect.

Hope everyone on here will keep on staying strong <3 Zoloft fucked me up at first, but it got a bit better afterwards, so don't you give up yet. xx
