Discussion has anyone ever successfully taken themselves hostage ?

pretty silly question but one I wanted to ask. part of the reason i want to die so badly is that besides money , nothing in the entire world brings me happiness. in particular , hard work and anything that is necessary for , you know , making money , leaves me totally miserable. my question is as follows ; once I've given up completely on living , lets say i purchase a gun and stand at the edge of a building until the authorities show up. could i reasonably bargain with them for ransom money ? at this point i would be prepared to die anyways , so if they declined i could just go through with it regardless , but if this is a totally unreasonable idea then i'd rather go with a prettier , less dramatic method. i don't know. i figure that with nothing to lose besides my life , which i'm already willing to part with , i might as well ask. forgive me if this is a stupid idea and would never realistically work out in my favor , but it's something I've been curious about. thanks a bunch !

they'd tell you want you want to hear, hand you some money, and then tackle and arrest you immediately after. not worth it.

Yeah, if they did it for one person, they'd be doing it for everyone. I hope you put a bit more (serious) thought into whatever method you decide on.

theyd either do what xXiloveyouXx said, or just outright shoot you if you even so much as flick the gun at them. hell, they might shoot you just because you're holding a gun in a public space. this isn't meant as encouragement. it can have devastating consequences for your family members if you have any.

Your pain is real, and that seems like a troublesome idea. This site is known and this post is public to authorities and you are discussing somewhat of a serious crime that could potentially put other people at risk, please be careful.
Disregarding that though, I personally do not believe in any situation where any government gives you ransom money and lets you walk away with it. They will most likely ask you to surrender the gun before they give you anything. And even if they did let you have your cake and eat it too, they'll just monitor you until you reveal your identity, or if you already done so, follow you until they decide an appropriate time to try and apprehend you.
