Eat less; eat better; move around more. Sounds easy, but sure isn't. Best bodybuilder I ever knew maintained that some 74-80% of bodybuilding was diet, not training.
Simple carbs are your foe if you're aiming for abby dabby definition. And not too many complex ones either.
Every good wish for success.
But… but… doesn't that Tiramisu look good af?

I started going to the gym beginning of 2024 as my city offers free gym, sauna and indoor swimming pool for mental health patients. I go there twice per week.

When I was 32/33 I was in the best shape of my life. 6' ~180 lbs and lots of muscle. I was running 5-10 miles a day every day.

But everything else was still the same. I felt the same on the inside, nobody treated or noticed me any differently on the outside. Women still were not interested in me. My job didn't pay me more.

Eventually after a few years of maintaining that, I figured why was I bothering? I got nothing for the effort of being in good physical shape beyond being in good physical shape. In fact, I was sometimes more depressed because at least when I'm out of shape I can say maybe if I were in shape somebody might like me... but in shape and still nothing? Why bother.

That's an awesome accomplishment nonetheless. People tend to be pretty shallow, but I hope you found good balance for yourself. It's so hard to maintain low body fat. 🥲

I'm losing weight lately because my appetite is gone. That has been kind of true for a while, but this week I've been in an I-don't-give-a-fuck mindset along with no appetite. I ate sometime early Saturday. I have not eaten anything since then.

Yo, big "can relate". Was in incredible shape at one point (I had abs! 😭) and realized I was still depressed.

Now that I am massively fat, I realize feeling better physically was nice even though it did absolutely nothing for my mental state. It was just one less thing to feel shitty about. Wish I would have kept up with it.

Man, I miss being ripped. Just cleaned up my workout area today so hopefully I can get back to it tomorrow.
Oh my god I posted this in May and since then I have gained like 30 pounds. What a loser.

Workout area is still cleared just not used.... I am going to try to do a whole 5 minutes of cardio.

I completely fell off the wagon since I last posted here. This month I'm trying to eat better. I don't eat nearly enough and I kept losing weight. This was my reminder to start again.
I feel like my life can be summed up with that: starting again. Today, before I go to work, I'll exercise. Getting back on the wagon.

Gym is my sanctuary, I got acquaintances there, and working out and gaining strength is the only area in my life where I feel I'm in control and progressing.

5 days of cardio in a row (a mere 5 minutes/day). I think I caught the workout bug again. I feel so much better physically right now.

I wish I hadn't hurt my back. The gym was one of the very few things that brought me solace.

I just assembled a leg extension machine in my apartment. So far my makeshift home gym includes that, a walking pad, some dumbbells, and a yoga mat. Hoping to build a solid routine and some level of strength with this stuff

Rower and ski erg are my favourite gym kit by far! Can really take out aggression/power on them, and/or zone out with the repetition. Also the fact you can't use your phone as you're hands are in use. 💪

Got motivated to start bodybuilding (I use this term loosely) again by this thread, but now I want to step up from push-ups and light cardio to this. It's probably going to require that trip to Starbucks.

If you like variety then another version of that is with a deck of playing cards. You assign each card a value e.g A=1, 2=2,... then jack/queen/king could be 10 or 11/12/13. Then you chose 4 exercises. One for each suit. So say I put hearts as sit-ups and spades as push ups, it might go
7 of hearts - 7 sit up
3 of spades - 3 push up and so on through the whole deck. You can assign the jokers something like a wall sit or plank hold. But this way is also quite a challenge because it adds up to really quite a lot of reps by the end. Maybe as a beginner its better to stick to time rather than number of reps to start.

One thing I would say is make sure you prioritise good form over number of reps. Drop to your knees for push ups to be able to keep going with a full strong range of motion, rather than struggling and risking injury with poor form. You'll be surprised how it'll build!

Also be patient for the first week or two - you will ache a day or two after - I personally like that feeling - proves to my doubting brain that I DID do good. It's normally around weeks 3-4 onwards that I start noticing my body's ability to step up the number of reps massively.

Good luck 💪💪💪

Excellent reminder, thanks! I know it's going to be tough to get back into the routine, and sloppy form can become a bad habit for me. /bow

I miss running a lot but the good thing is I am no longer in danger of face-planting on a treadmill when what I am listening to makes me laugh. 😅 I miss watching Let's Plays while I run but now I am entertained by racing the little pace boat on the rower.
