- how long does it take to die?

I don't know about the aftermath, but this guy is the only video (nsfw/l of course) I have where I think he hit his heart judging by the angle of his shot and entry hole. If he did then I guess it is definitely not an instantaneous death. I also don't know about the pain severity.

this is not instant but not terrible. I am surprised he aimed and shot quickly. I couldn't easily locate my heart! I can only aim based on my heartbeat

Yeah same, so I don't want to claim with a 100% certainty that he actually hit his heart. Maybe he got lucky (I hope).

Does someone have information about gunshot to the heart instead of head? I couldn't find enough information. I want to know:

- what happens to the person if they survive?
- does the person become vegetable or paralyzed?
- how to target the heart?
- how long does it take to die?

Thanks
Heart is pretty much dead center in your chest. If you were to shoot straight into your sternum, there's a good chance you'd hit your spine. You could angle a few degrees to the left and if you somehow survived, your spine would be ok.

Definitely not instant, as it would take at least a few seconds for your brain to shut down (vs brainstem, which is instant).

You will not survive getting shot in the heart. Even if you miss, you'd probably hit an artery or lung, and bleed/suffocate to death.

Okay but can we understand how this only works if you have an access to guns? If one has only bullet for a shotgun then it need its to be perfect. Shotguns do much more damage yet I feel like there needs to be an angle when pointing on the skull.

A .12 gauge shotgun to the mouth, loaded with .00 buckshot, will blow most of your head apart. The pressure wave alone, minus any buckshot, is potentially lethal inside of your mouth. Unless you completely fuck up and angle the barrel out and forwards through your sinuses, the trauma is not survivable.

So I just got a 357 ruger and some hollow point ammo, no need to congratulate me, and I was curious what others here thought. So as I understand it the best spot to aim is in the mouth angled up, but what about overcoming the innate desire to live? I have heard some testimonials of people trying to CTB with a firearm and being unable to pull the trigger because of that innate desire and I was wondering if you thought that if I managed to pull it while playing Russian Roulette if I would also be able to do it with a fully loaded gun

Does anyone have any idea as to the best gun for balancing success rate with the mess you leave behind? I know shotguns will get the job done best, but I also don't want the EMTs/anyone who discovers me or the I care about to have to deal with seeing my head being blown clean off.

From the Budd Dwyer video, it doesn't look like the .357 is too bad, but even still it's not exactly pretty (not that I'm expecting it to be, it's still a gun). So I guess maybe I should be more concerned with making the cleanup as easy as possible. What are some was to go about that?

I'm probably still leaning more toward the .357 as opposed to anything else, but would a .38 special have about the same odds of success with a smaller exit wound?

Using a regular 12 gauge with standard length (varies by 2" depending on brand), would the most reliable position and firing mechanism be holding between knees, mouth over barrel aimed at brain stem and using a stick to push trigger?

What would be the best method of activating the trigger in this position?

if you want to live, or you are not 100% sure, I don't suggest firearm. You can read about survival insect. it has been discussed in this forum

You angel is wrong. You don't want to shoot all the way up because you won't hit the brainstem

there are multiple options available. For revolvers, magnum 41 ot 44 should do the job. for pistols, 45acp or 10mm should do the job.

If you shoot inside the mouth towards the brainstem or shoot towards your heart there won't be so much mess.

I also want to mention the importance of gun training. If you flinch, you won't hit the right spot

I would say a .308 or bigger rifle aimed at the heart. That's going to be the least gory, but still very lethal. Plenty of hunters take down 400lb.+ animals with a .308 at a couple hundred yards. One shot to the chest, and the animal dies. All you see is a little blood at the entrance.

Handgun would also work fine, but for the heart, 375, 44 mag, 10mm or 45acp.

i have never yet shot a gun of any kind . However i recently bought a 12 gauge shotgun and a .45 handgun for ctb purposes.

@Small_Dreams, @threesummers , @DanWhoLikesPie , @clockface, anyone , Would a 12 gauge shotgun slug also work just as good inside the mouth? or is 00 buchshot better than a slug for in the mouth angled toward the brain stem?

What about a 12 gauge slug to the heart or a 45 to the chest? would these pierce the rib cage and hit the heart? This is for my ctb.

i have the slugs, 00 buckshot and 45 bullets for my semi auto handgun.

Look into getting something like this if you can. I'm sure arm length plays a role but I found it pretty easy to reach the trigger with the relatively short barrel and pistol grip: https://www.mossberg.com/product/maverick-88-cruiser-6-shot-31008/

To maximize odds of success I'd recommend 00 buck towards the brainstem. It will pretty much take your whole head off as long as you don't aim way too high. Slug would likely not be any different, it just has a bit less surface area than buckshot.

Please go practice. Don't attempt without doing so - it could have disastrous results.

Slug is better in general. Shot won't spread in the distance it's traveling either in your mouth or through your chest. The slug, especially a 3" Remington Slugger has significantly more energy than 2 3/4 buck. But in the end, all of these are going to be fatal both to the head and heart.

Both would easily. With the 45, you could position the barrel between the ribs.

My plan was been to buy a shotgun, load it, and use its first shot on myself, without practice.

My logic is that not practicing basically eliminates the chance of flinching. From my understanding, flinching is a subconscious motor behavior that your body develops to compensate for recoil. So if you never shoot a weapon, you shouldn't have the muscle memory that causes flinching when pulling the trigger.

Honest question, what could go wrong with a properly-aimed shotgun in the mouth, pulling the trigger without having practiced shooting it previously?

Somebody posted a video on this site showing someone who blew off his whole face with a shotgun but survived and his whole face was just a blody mess- all the skin was gone from the looks of it- he was in extreme misery. I think the theory you have is incorrect- I would only consider a shutgun if I had shot it before and was very comfortable with the wweapon. This video may or may not have been taken down, I don't know.

Do you have any prior experience with any other guns? Anyway, you could simply handle the gun incorrectly and have a negligent discharge as you are getting ready. If you were aimed at any non-vital parts you'd be in for a world of pain.

All I can say is 100% I wouldn't. If you do, aim for the heart and not your mouth/face. At least this way, if somehow you survive, you will still have a face and not be a vegetable/blind/cripple.

There's an anticipatory flinch that occurs when firing, and a reactionary flinch from the sound of your gun and other guns at the range. It doesn't take long to lose them both. A couple trips and you'll be fine. Eventually, you'll be able to have a full on conversation shooting your own gun with people in lanes on both sides of you shooting as well.

The more comfortable you are firing the gun, the less likely you are to have any problems. Plus, shooting is awesome. A real fun hobby that you will get better at very quickly.
Honest question, what could go wrong with a properly-aimed shotgun in the mouth, pulling the trigger without having practiced shooting it previously?
Unless you go high end, shotgun triggers are notoriously shitty. They typically have a hard, short pull. So much worse than a stock AR or Glock, both of which are pretty shitty themselves. At least get a feel for the trigger break with the gun unloaded in your house.

Like @threesummers said using a 3" magnum shell is going to have more power than 2 3/4". As far as buckshot vs slug I'm not 100% certain, I've heard arguments for both but I don't think it really matters as long as you aim in the general vicinity of the brainstem (or heart). If you choose brainstem I included a few links below you can look at for getting the aim down. I'd recommend practicing while looking in the mirror or recording yourself until holding the shotgun at the correct angle is second nature. Knowing you have the right ammo and the right aim when the time comes should help alleviate a big source of potential anxiety. Feel free to PM me anytime if you want to talk more, I'm planning on using the same method to ctb later this year.

I will pick up my handgun from the store tomorrow. I will buy a safe, holster, and ammo. I want to buy fmj and jhp ammo. The fmj is for training. The jhp is for ctb.

I went to some training classes and spent time at the range. I am a woman and go alone. For some reason, I look suspicious to people and they ask me questions every single time!!

My questions:

- at the store: how to avoid questions about my gun purchase and why I don't buy 9mm caliber as recommended? and that 45acp is not a beginner gun/woman gun..etc? men like to get involved in women choices when it comes to guns

- at the range: can I shoot my 45acp gun 10-20 rounds only without looking suspicious? I just want to see if the gun is working as intended.

- for ctb: if I use fmj ammo for training, will using jhp ammo for ctb easy? I don't think I am allowed to shoot jhp, 45acp at the range.

thank you!

the part of the gun is the muzzle. It doesn't necessary have to touch anything but it has to be very close.

the part of the mouth is not clear. You just need to point out the gun towards the brainstem

@threesummers @rationaldeath , anyone ,

i have a 12 gauge shotgun mossberg 590 shockwave 14.37 inch barrel .

Would aim it and place it firmly on my chest right on the sternum to destroy as much of the heart as i can.

I guess all these 3 would penetrate the sternum and destroy my heart?

Magnum 3 inch 00 buckshot 15 pellets 1225 fps. , .33 inch diameter of pellet, my calculations say this is almost 1.8 ounces

magnum 3 inch 000 buckshot 10 pellets 1225 fps , .36 inch diameter of pellet

magnum slugger 3 inch 1760 fps , i'm guessing .79 inch diameter of slug

How many seconds if any of consciousness would i have after pulling the trigger and hitting the heart with any of these shots? i imagine a large amount of immediate blood loss would cause a loss of consciousness but in how many seconds? i'm guessing this would register bad pain? Yeah i don't want the pain but it would be nice to know in 1 second yeah i hit it , i did it . i finally did it

Which would be better?

i saw that video someone posted above in the thread of that guy that shot himself in the chest with a handgun. Looks like he stood for a few seconds but didn't seem to be in pain to me. Then he fell. i don't know what handgun he used.

@pthnrdnojvsc I'm not sure exactly how long you would be conscious from a slug/buck directly to the heart. A few seconds max.

If anything, watch some hunting videos. See how long it takes the animal to die. Not fun to watch, but may give you some idea. Doesn't matter if the firearm is a rifle or shotgun shooting a slug. Look for videos where the hunter scores a direct hit to the heart. From what I've seen in those, the animal just drops. If they miss the heart, and hit a lung, it's usually less than a minute.

A slug would absolutely work. The hydrostatic shock caused by a slug from a 12 gauge is incredible. If you get the angle right - the shockwave should scramble the brain completely.

If you get a chance look up ballistic gel testing of shotgun slugs on YouTube.

I've seen someone shot in the heart with a .38, far less powerful than your shotgun. Out like a light instantly. Most aim for the head, though.
