I know in my shooting days anyone not pointing downrange or looking "itchy" got a lot of eyes on them. Ranges, at least in my state, are eyed with suspicion to start with so any incident is an excuse to shut it down. I sold off all my guns years ago but even in dark times when I had them I had another method in mind. It just gave people who wanted to ban them an excuse.
I could hit 500 with run of the mill 223 and my AR. One thing the military did teach me to do was shoot.You really only need match grade to be consistent at 500+ yards.
