I know in my shooting days anyone not pointing downrange or looking "itchy" got a lot of eyes on them. Ranges, at least in my state, are eyed with suspicion to start with so any incident is an excuse to shut it down. I sold off all my guns years ago but even in dark times when I had them I had another method in mind. It just gave people who wanted to ban them an excuse.

You really only need match grade to be consistent at 500+ yards.
I could hit 500 with run of the mill 223 and my AR. One thing the military did teach me to do was shoot.

I'm definitely not that good - basically trained myself, so I'm sure I have tons of bad habits. I can get about a 2" group at 30 yards on my ar with steel .223 and a good red dot.

I haven't shot out past 100 yards yet. Looking to do so soon.

Got a killer deal on a private sale 308 bolt rifle with a good scope and ammo. Hoping to get to the outdoor range near me in the next week or so.

I had to sell my unfired M1A with heavy barrel and leather sling. Long story but best for my daughter. Got it before she was born as my last gun purchase (yeah more than 1 is kinda throwing money out) and never got a chance to shoot it.

Agree 100%, I have a bunch that just sit around. The past year, with ammo prices and scarcity, I've been shooting my M&P-22, Glock 19, and Ar-9 the most. I do try to practice on my Glock 42 and Beretta Pico, since those are my main carry guns, but 380 is more than 9 - hard to spend $0.50/round on something that small. Can't shoot steel in either of those guns - too small and temperamental. With the pico, only flat nose brass reliably cycles. The 42 works with round or flat, but still has to be brass.

The only thing I wish I had picked up about 10 years ago when I got heavy into shooting is a full-auto m16. They were under $20k back then, and regularly over $40k today. Unfortunately, I lived in a non-free state back then, so no real chance of that happening unless I just let it sit at a FFL.
